The Group 2 Darley Furious Stakes for three-year-old fillies over 1200m is one of four Group races on Randwick’s cracking Saturday card. A field of 11 will face the starter, with the promising Hungry Heart leading the betting ahead of Silver Shadow winner Dame Gisselle and runner-up Thermosphere. The speed will be genuine with Chianti, Forbidden Love and Dame Giselle all likely to push forward, while a stack of other runners will bustle for prominent positions.

Thermosphere and Dame Giselle are two of five runners to come through the Silver Shadow a fortnight ago, and they look to have the wood on the other three out of that race. At the prices, Thermosphere is hard to go past after a cracking return when placed second. While we would’ve liked to see her step up in trip, she will be much fitter second up and should run on a bit better in a race with plenty of speed on. Drawn in the outside alley, Jason Collett will have to either settle at the rear or, if she jumps well, put her in the race and sit just off the pace. She has placed three times over the six furlongs and looks to have come back in very good order en route to the Flight Stakes.
Hungry Heart @ $2.80 Sportsbet
Chris Waller and James McDonald combine with Hungry Heart, who is first up after running fifth in the Golden Slipper. That form is naturally good, but it’s already been franked by Tagaloa and Mamaragan’s excellent return on the weekend, Dame Giselle and Thermosphere the weekend prior, and the way that Farnan has trialled in the past month suggests he was no fluke winner. It was a seriously hot Slipper where Hungry Heart was only beaten 4.3L, which speaks for itself. Prior to that, she was a Group 2 winner in the Sweet Embrace at this track and distance when she came from last to round the field up. From barrier three, McDonald will utilise the good gate to get her into a strong position and allow her to relax and finish off strong. She’s the favourite for a very good reason.
Dame Giselle @ $4.20 Sportsbet
The top three in the market look to have a class edge on their rivals, so Dame Giselle should be the one filling the placings. She was very tough first up when leading all the way to hold out a fast-finishing Thermosphere, who she meets 1kg better off here. She was an early Golden Slipper favourite after running second in the Kirkham Stakes on debut. She then won the Golden Gift and she certainly wasn’t disgraced in the Slipper, running seventh when beaten 5L. She looks to have come back in fantastic order and will take some beating if she can get across the field from her wide alley. The main knock is that Tommy Berry might have to use a little too much petrol early to get over the field from barrier 10, which will see her peak in the straight. She rates highly.
