Randwick-Kensington racing preview – Wednesday, March 10, 2021
The Randwick-Kensington track will play host to eight races on Wednesday afternoon. The track is rated a Good 4, the rail is in the true position, and the field for the first race will face the starter at 1:45pm. Here are the latest odds and best bets on offer at Australia’s top bookmakers.
Best Bet: Mr Mosaic
Mr Mosaic returns to the races on Wednesday and will be looking to maintain his unbeaten first-up record. Trained by Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou, the four-year-old entire will likely find the front from barrier seven and be able to sprint quickly at the business end. He won first up last campaign by 3.3 lengths at Warwick Farm and was then nailed late by Chat in a race that has produced four subsequent winners. He can win this.
Race 5 – Mr Mosaic (#1)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1363263_05]
Next Best: Athelric
James Cummings and Hugh Bowman combine in the second with Athelric. The two-year-old colt by Exceed And Excel showed ability in trials and then ran gamely when fourth to Shaquero on debut in the Breeder’s Plate. He finished five lengths off the winner in the Golden Gift and then was beaten a similar margin by Stay Inside at his next start. Beaten as an odds-on pop last start at Newcastle, he should appreciate getting back to 1000m after being a touch unlucky over the 900m trip. With Bowman on from a kind draw in barrier five, we should see him settle in the first or second pair and then close off better than anything. We might see him in the next online sale if he doesn’t figure in the finish.
Race 2 – Athelric (#1)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1363263_02]
Best Value: Above And Beyond
Tom Marquand notched up his first winner on Australian shores this time in at Canberra on Sunday, and he looks set to get another win on Wednesday aboard Above And Beyond. The Gary Portelli-trained five-year-old has run second by narrow margins in his two latest outings under Louise Day, so the added strength of Marquand should be advantageous. He stays at 1550m but drops half a kilogram, while the return to a Good track will also be beneficial for the son of Sebring. He shouldn’t be too far away in the run from barrier eight and will be well within striking distance.
Race 6 – Above And Beyond (#2)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1363263_06]
