Punt Drunk: Vandyke says no, Sam McClueless out of his depth

Punt Drunk racing news

Punt Drunk News – Wednesday, January 27

Good morning, punters! Hopefully you all had a successful Australia Day and the hangover is one you can handle. If you can’t, then call in sick, Uber Eats some breakfast and punt your heart away on hump day. That sounds like a bloody great idea, if you ask us!

Vandyke blacklists Eagle Farm

David Vandyke

Queensland-based trainer David Vandyke has come out and told connections that he will not be starting any runners at the rubbish dump that is Eagle Farm. For months trainers have raised their concerns about the Brisbane track, but no one had gone as far as to put it on the “never again” list. It’s a far cry from the glory days when Eagle Farm was considered one of the best in the country. It’s almost like fixing something that wasn’t broken ?

Oh Sam, stay in your lane!

Sam McClure is one of the senior AFL reporters in Melbourne and has built a reputation on Twitter for being a bit of a know it all. Well, Sammy boy, you got this wrong. He clearly had some of his hard earned on Dosh or has a small share in the two-year-old filly, but he couldn’t have been more off the mark than asking what Enthaar had done to earn favouritism for next month’s Blue Diamond Stakes. If you have lived under a rock the past three months and haven’t seen the way Enthaar bolted in to win the Gimcrack, then A) reevaluate all the meanings of life, and B) go watch it and remember your opinion isn’t as wrong as Sam’s. It’s hard to fathom how a “respected” journo can’t see such clear evidence right in front of him.

Look away now, Rainbiel fans!

Australia Day got off to a near vomit-worthy start in the opener at Caulfield when the well-backed favourite Rainbiel found more trouble than we do when we come home 12 pints deep before a dinner with the in-laws. It was the filly’s sixth start in her career and the first start for this campaign. There’s no doubt in our mind that if she saw a bit more daylight than any miner in Australia, she should have won by at least 37 lengths. But predictions like that don’t put the money bags in the pockets, do they?
