Punt Drunk: Returning star aiming for another Everest tilt

Mt Everest

Welcome to another daily edition of #PuntDrunk – your go-to read for racing news and tips each morning, Punt Drunk.

We were flung back into the 2020 feels yesterday morning when the Queensland premier sent the majority of the state’s southeast back into a snap three-day lockdown. But as has been the case for the entirety of the pandemic, the racing continues!

We have four meetings on the agenda today, and you can bet your bottom dollar the team here at HorseBetting.com.au have you covered for top tips and value bets.

Apparently Verry Elleegant needs to lift?

We promise we are not drunk while writing this, but apparently Verry Elleegant needs to improve on her win in the Ranvet Stakes on Saturday afternoon. Even though she is one of the best horses over the last year or so, the “experts” say the Chris Waller-trained mare will have to find another gear if she is to beat Addeybb when they meet again in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Verry Elleegant obtained an equal career-high Timeform rating of 123 in the Ranvet, and that is the same rating as when she took out the Tancred Stakes last year. Addeybb returned a career-high of 129 when taking out the Champion Stakes at Ascot in October. Addeybb is an elite galloper, but Verry Elleegant is no mug. When the pair do battle on Day 2 of The Championships, we cannot wait for the mare to give him windburn again.

Gytrash set to climb The Everest again

Remember Gytrash? Well, he is back fit and almost 100% healthy according to his trainer, Gordon Richards. Due to a severe bone chip injury, the South Australian star has not been seen on the track since his win in the Yes Yes Yes Stakes on October 31. The five-year-old gelding will return to the Richards stable tomorrow, and it looks like another tilt at The Everest is on the agenda. Connections would no doubt have looked at a couple of nice races in the Brisbane Winter Carnival, but they are opting to keep Gytrash wrapped in cotton wool ahead of another big spring campaign. Here’s hoping he can get back to his absolute best, which was absolutely electrifying to watch!

Tuesday racing tips – March 30, 2021

Punt Drunk’s best bet of the day

The Leon & Troy Corstens-trained Sodbuster was still going away from her rivals when she broke her maiden with an eight-length win at Kilmore on March 11. Brad Parnham took the reins for that run and perhaps showed the way this girl should to be ridden going forward. With Lachlan King back in the saddle at Mornington today, expect the All Too Hard filly to settle outside the leader and be charging away from the rest early in the home straight.

Mornington – Race 7 – BM58 Handicap (1200m)#5 Sodbuster (7) $2.20 with Sportsbet
