Punt Drunk: Oakleigh Plate Winner ‘Pippie’ Goes Under The Hammer!

Punt Drunk Daily – 8/5/21

What a working week that was! Now we are spoiled with some elite racing around the country on this Saturday afternoon. The Group 1 South Australian Derby headlines the action around the country, with strong support cards at both the Gold Coast and at Gosford. Keep your eyes glued to horsebetting.com.au for all of the best bets right throughout your afternoon on the punt!

Pippie Sold!

The 2020 winner of both the Oakleigh Plate and the AJ Moir Stakes has gone under the hammer at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale. The dual Group 1 winning mare out of Written Tycoon fetched a fair old price of $1,800,000. The five-year-old chestnut mare has claimed the scalps of some of Australia’s best sprinters whilst under the care of John and Chris Meagher. Pippie showed just how good she is when beating the then best sprinter in the world Bivouac in convincing fashion during her Oakleigh Plate when, when Biv could do no better than fifth. Both her Group 1 successes came in similar fashion with her jumping to the front of the field and holding her rivals at bay in convincing fashion. She made her name as a world-class sprinter, and now it is her time to do her work as a broodmare.

Show Us A More Arrogant Ride On A Friday!

Nash Rawiller, Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott. They are a combination that has been feared for many years, and no doubt many years to come. Not many of their wins as a combination have come more arrogantly than when they combined with Splendiferous in Queen Of The South at Wagga yesterday afternoon. Nash sat on the back of the Pride Of Dubai filly like a department store mannequin halfway up the home straight, and when he asked her for an effort she simply put her rivals away in the space of a couple of strides. The win at Wagga yesterday was her third win on the bounce, and who knows what is in store for the filly on the way up!

Punt Drunk’s best bet of the day

We could have tipped a few in the meteor meetings, but let’s double our money at Ipswich with the Kris Lees-trained Vanbari. The Vancouver gelding put a space on his rivals after racing up on speed at Gatton and looks set to continue that winning form over the Ipswich 1690m. He should settle outside the leader, and with a bit of class on his side should be too good for the Class 2 field.
