Don’t expect pleasantries or typical racing media fanboy gloss from Punt Drunk – we’re on the punt and we don’t have time to bullshit; the next is about to jump…

Well, it’s Sunday, we’re hungover and planning on how we build back up the Christmas budget after doing our ass in on Saturday afternoon. Thanks for that Criaderas and Macroura.

However, Sunday is a new day, the Hong Kong International Races are upon us and the whole of Australia will be cheering home The Everest winner Classique Legend as he looks to claim the Hong Kong Sprint, one of the four Group 1 features on the Sha Tin card

Anyway, we will try our best to steer you into a winner today one way or another!

Another Huge Collect!

Last week it was a nine leg multi from a $20 bet that saw a massive collect, yesterday it was a $30 daily double at Eagle Farm that saw a five figure collect for one lucky punter! In race 7, favourite Usmanov got the job done which would have been a popular result for punters. But it was the last leg that sprung a surprise to all punters except this one punter, who had Alison Of Tuffy salute at $100/1 and balloon the Daily Double payout. We wonder how much he told his wife that he won…

From standing up in the saddle to sledging

Ah Bossy, how we love you. You’re the gift that keeps on giving. When getting the upper hand over rival jockey Michael Rodd in the concluding stages of race 2 at Eagle Farm yesterday, Bossy made sure to let Rodd know who won as he went over the finish line. It comes six weeks after his infamous celebration as he crossed the finish line when winning the Cox Plate aboard Sir Dragonet! Also, what a horse to do this on as well, not behd ‘Good Soize’.

2020 isn’t too bad after all

In Punt Drunk we tend to not take ourselves too seriously, however this was simply to hard to ignore. At the conclusion of Race 3 at The Valley last night, Shirley Hunter quickly became a jockey everyone loved. It was her second win at The Valley with her last coming in 2014. However she has formed a formidable duo with Lady Day out of the Peter Burgun stable who has string together three wins on the bounce. Safe to say, in such a crappy year, this was one of the feel good stories of 2020.

Is there a more Bossy entrance than this?

Superstar jockey Glen Boss arrived for his six week stint in QLD Friday afternoon and didn’t the Brisbane Racing Club put out a welcoming party for him? Bossy is no stranger to enjoying a bit of over the top celebrations but this could be his best yet, and we’re sure he had no part in whatsoever. The party quickly halted when he hopped aboard plunge horse Platinum Euros in race 4 at Doomben who was 3.60 when markets opened on raceday, and jumped at $1.55, yet the McCall trained galloper could only muster a fourth placed finished, leaving plenty of punters searching for some two minute noodles.

That’s what you call a return investment

Fair bloody play Eric Musgrove. In the final event at Mackay on Thursday afternoon, a horse by the name of El Diez managed to bring up career victory number two, from three career starts. It seemed business as usual surely on a Thursday afternoon. However it was revealed just hours prior to him winning at Mackay he had just been sold to legendary trainer Eric Musgrove for $20,000 at the Magic Millions Online sales, with the win netting his new connections a cheeky $10,000. How bloody good would it be if that happened to one of us one day?

Another spring star set for the All Star Mile

Joining the likes of Arcadia Queen, Mystic Journey and Behemoth in recent weeks, the Richard & Chantelle Jolly trained Kemalpasa is being set towards a crack at the All Star Mile in March at The Valley. With regular jockey Craig Williams almost certainly set to ride Behemoth, the five-year-old gelding will be needing a new jockey for the race if he gets in, which may not be a bad thing for connections as they may get a word in if he is successful because we all know how much Willow loves a victory speech.

Sunday, 13 December 2020 Racing Tips

Now for the part all you cheeky bastards were waiting for to build those bank balances up from the big benders on Friday and Saturday night. There should be some gold in here to get you out of the dog house before the ‘accountant’ checks those bank balances.
