Punt Drunk: Another jockey banned as RV cracks down on doping
This week has felt like it has dragged along with no end in sight, but now we are up and about for Day 2 of The Championships and plenty of top-tier support acts to go with it too. Russian Camelot finds new home at Widden Stud
There’s your current Ladbrokes Cox Plate favourite!
RUSSIAN CAMELOT wins the Group 1 Underwood Stakes and is now eligible for a bonus $1M through the Ladbrokes Cox Plate Boost #LEGENDARY
— Cox Plate Carnival (@CoxPlate) September 26, 2020
As we announced last month, Russian Camelot has been retired from the racetrack, and the spruik horse of 2020 has found a new home in the Hunter Valley. The South Australian Derby and Underwood Stakes winner is headed to Widden Stud, where he will join Zoustar and Nicconi in the breeding barn.
The Russian won two Group 1 races and placed in three others, including an impressive third in the 2020 Cox Plate. In his short career he earned connections close to $2.4 million, and you would think tally will only increase in his life after racing.
Lorensini banned on doping breaches
He’s back! NO SAY IN IT soaks up the heavy conditions at Colac to bring home the @bet365 Geelong St Pat’s Cup 🏆 A top ride from Jarrod Lorensini who also rode Copu to victory earlier in the day.
Congrats to @CraigRounsefell and team on a super win 🍻 pic.twitter.com/JK4K6y0xOV

Can we just get one week where the racing industry doesn’t make a fool of itself? This week it is Jarrod Lorensini’s turn to bring the sport into disrepute. Lorensini has been handed a six-month ban after returning six (yes, six) irregular tests for banned substances. The suspension sees the Victorian jockey join fellow sidelined hoop Samuel Payne, who also returned multiple positive tests. Racing Victoria has collected 65 samples from the state’s training facilities, with multiple positive tests returned. Imagine the amount of suspensions handed out if they tested absolutely everyone? We may not have any jockeys left!

Punt Drunk’s best bet of the day
Having taken 15 starts to break through for a maiden win, More Shots has now strung together consecutive victories. From barrier nine, we expect the Rob Potter-trained mare to jump to the front and be too quick for this BM58 field now that the penny has dropped.
