Where Murray Bridge Racing Club – 342 Brinkley Rd, Murray Bridge South SA 5253
When Saturday, March 4, 2023
First Race 12:17pm ACDT

Metropolitan racing in South Australia heads to Murray Bridge for the club’s Magic Millions Raceday on Saturday afternoon. The track is currently rated a Good 3 for the nine-race card, but with warm weather expected, we should see plenty of irrigation go onto the track in a bid to get it into Good 4 range come the weekend. The rail returns to the true position for the meeting getting underway at 12:17pm ACDT.

Best Bet at Murray Bridge: Tacito

Our best bet of the day, Tacito, is set to compete in one of his easiest races to date on Saturday in the Murray Bridge Magic Millions 2YO Classic. The two-year-old colt from the Ben & JD Hayes barn chaseed home the smart duo Zulfiqar and Veecee on debut at Sandown before going on to Flemington and placing in the Listed Talindert Stakes. He steps out of Group & Listed company and, in a race worth $200,000, looks perfectly placed. From barrier eight in the small field, Jake Toeroek will look to have the Showtime colt settled in the one-one throughout, where he will be poised to strike. The small field looks to suit him, and with two minor placings to his name in tougher company to begin his career, it should be third time the charm for Tacito.

Best Bet

Race 4 – Silk #1 Tacito (8)

Next Best at Murray Bridge: Elite Icon

Elite Icon returned to the winning stall at Ballarat on February 19 when leading throughout in dominant fashion to bring up a third career win at start three. It had been a fair while between drinks for the four-year-old son of Nicconi, but he showed what he was capable of with a smart front-running performance. Barrier nine on Saturday is offset by his natural early speed from the barrier and in a race that lacks another speed influencer, Elite Icon should gain every favour out in front under Jason Holder. With a cheap lead and winning momentum behind him, Elite Icon is clearly one of the better bets of the day at Murray Bridge.

Best Value at Murray Bridge: Qeyaady

We will be looking to strike some value in the second leg of the quaddie when last start winner Qeyaady looks to continue his recent purple patch of form. The four-year-old gelding narrowly missed first-up from a spell here over 900m, but the son of I Am Invincible managed to fend off the challengers late to claim victory by the barest of margins last time out at Morphettville. He looks to be a runner who needs to be held up until the last possible moment to stake his claim so he does not think about the result too much and from barrier two should be able to afford that luxury. With even luck inside the final furlong, Qeyaady has the turn of foot to get the job done and salute at a nice price with online bookmakers.

Best Value

Race 7 – Silk #3 Qeyaady (2)

4yo Gelding | T: Michael Hickmott | J: Ben Price (a1.5) (59kg)
