First Race 11:47am ACST

The Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes headlines proceedings on Morphettville’s nine-race card on Saturday afternoon. With a stack of Stakes level racing and quality horse flesh set to grace the ‘City of Churches’, we are confident we can steer you into a few winners throughout the day. With plenty of rain on Saturday, we anticipate we will be racing on a Soft 7 throughout the day, whilst the rail comes out 3m the entire circuit.

A Group 1 day of racing is set to get underway at 11:47am ACST.

Race 1: BM68 Handicap (2014m)

Robert Sangster Stakes Day commence with a competitive BM68 over 2014m and with a bit of luck, Silent Surente can continue her consistent form. With a win and two minor placings at her last two starts, the four-year-old Fiorente mare has been going as well as anyone heading into this race and from barrier one is sure to take some holding out. Ben Price who claims 1.5kg will use the low draw to his advantage and have this girl stalking the speed throughout. She was placed on soft going two runs back and if Silent Surente brings her best, she will take some holding out.

Selections:

Race 2: Open Handicap (1600m)

My Khalifa was a smart winner of the Listed City of Adelaide Handicap and we expect that form to continue on Saturday. The four-year-old gelding has two wins and a third behind subsequent Warrnambool Cup winner Rolls from his last three starts and the small field looks to suit. He draws barrier two under Todd Pannell and considering he has four wins and five minor placings to his name on rain-affected going, My Khalifa looks a great bet here. Little Rich Boy will lead this field up to the home turn and as long as My Khalifa is in clear air at that point, he should prove too good for this field.

Selections:

Race 3: BM64 Handicap (1050m)

Noble Magnate has been competitive in tougher grade this campaign and we expect he will bounce back to form when he steps back to BM64 grade. The three-year-old son of Magnus returns to the Morphettville 1050, a track and trip he has a win and second to his name from three attempts. With plenty of pace drawn underneath him, he draws to gain a beautiful run in transit, just off the pace under Jake Toeroek. Look for Toeroek to have him saved for one last crack at the leaders and when asked for an effort, Noble Magnate should just be finishing over the top of his rivals here.

Selections:

Race 4: Group 3 D C McKay Stakes (1100m)

Savatoxl is a genuine Group 1 sprinter and will be looking to go one better in the Group 3 D C McKay Stakes following a narrow defeat in the race last year. He returned with a dominant victory at Alice Springs following six months off the scene and looks poised to strike second-up. He is a touch suspect on wet ground but in a race where he ‘only’ needs to lug 60.5kg he is going to take some catching. Caitlin Jones will take the evergreen veteran to the front of the back from barrier three and under a well-rated ride following an uncontested lead, we anticipate Savatoxl will prove too hard to run down upon his return to Adelaide.

Race 5: Listed Without Fear Stakes (1050m)

A field of 10 two-year-olds will do battle in the Listed Without Fear Stakes and despite not being at her best last time out, Remedies looks hard to beat in this event. The Godolphin filly was well beaten in the Listed Dequetteville Stales, but her form prior looks ideal compared to what her rivals bring. She draws to gain a perfect run in transit under Ben Melham in the one-one from barrier two. She looks to have a good enough turn of foot to account for those with race experience and unless one of the debutants are superstars, Remedies should prove too classy for this lot.

Selections:

Race 6: Group 2 Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m)

The Group 2 Queen Of The South Stakes opens the quaddie and we are happy to side with dominant Bendigo winner from two starts ago Waltz On By. She was last seen finishing fourth in the Mornington Guineas, but her effort the start prior suggests she is the one to beat here. She has a tactical advantage over some of her rivals and from barrier 14, Linda Meech will have this girl doing her own thing out in front, or outside leader. Despite having duck eggs at the mile, she brings a certain element of class that some of these lack and under a well-rated steer from the in-form Meech, Waltz On By will have to big a break on some of her rivals.

Race 7: Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m)

The Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes for fillies and mares takes centre stage on Saturday where a strong field of 14 will battle it out. Despite not being seen since her defeat in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning, Marabi looks poised to strike in Saturday’s Group 1. She is adept on rain-affected ground having won the Group 2 Australia Stakes last year on a deteriorating Soft 6 and with a tactical advantage over some of her rivals, will be sure to give a sight out in front. Marabi has the Maher & Eustace polish and with Ben Allen sticking on board, look for the pair to break their rivals’ hearts in a dominant all-the-way victory and can hopefully salute at a big price.

Race 8: Group 2 Tobin Bronze Stakes (1200m)

One of our better bets of the day comes up in the Group 2 Tobin Bronze Stakes when She Dances steps out over 1200m once again. The three-year-old filly put 5.5 lengths on her rivals at Sandown in the VOBIS Gold Dash and from barrier two under Linda Meech looks to have the race well within her grasp. Look for Meech to push up and hold out the key speed influencers early and if She Dances can do that, she possesses a high-crusing speed that not many of these can match and with a bit of luck, She Dances away with the Tobin Bronze Stakes.

Race 9: BM64 Handicap (1200m)

We started the day with a Will Clarken & Nikki O’Shea runner, and we look to round out the day with their mare, Toast The Deel. The four-year-old mare has been racing in consistent form this campaign and we hope she can blouse her rivals with a well timed sprint. From barrier 14, Todd Pannell will have no choice but to go to the rear of the field, but considering that is her natural racing pattern, it is hardly a concern. She is placed on Soft ground in the past and with a hotly-contested 1200m event expected, Toast The Deel will get the race run to suit and should take a power of beating if good enough.
