Moreira fell aboard Regal Monarch in the Ronald McDonald House Charities Plate as they were approaching the turn. He was able to walk under his own steam to the ambulance, but after suffering a heavy fall, stewards elected to stand Moreria down for the rest of the day.
That means he won’t ride Thomas Hobson in the 2017 Melbourne Cup, which has already seen its odds move from $19 to $20 at Neds.com.au.
Moreira will also miss rides aboard Counterplay in the Lexus Hybrid Plate and I Thought So in the MSS Security Plate.
Apprentice jockey Ben Allen takes the ride on Thomas Hobson and Noel Callow to ride Counterplay.
