Caulfield Guineas winner Golden Mile has been retired from racing.

Golden Mile, an unbeaten juvenile who went on to Group 1 Caulfield Guineas glory at three and a weight-for-age winner at four, has been retired from racing and joins the Darley stallion roster of Northwood Park alongside Group 1 Newmarket winner Cylinder.

The four-year-old bows out fit, sound and as Australia’s highest earning first-season stallion this season with prize money totalling an impressive $4,350,450.

Following Golden Mile’s Group 1 Caulfield Guineas victory, Godolphin Australia’s head trainer James Cummings and Champion jockey James McDonald were effusive in their praise of the talented horse’s performance.

“The horse emerged to win his debut… he just hasn’t stopped running slashing races in Sydney with a Caulfield Guineas written all over him,” said Cummings.

“He was great. He had a great turn of foot, the horse, and that’s what won him the race today,” said McDonald.

Golden Mile retires from racing as a four-time Group winner complemented by an enviable pedigree being a son of Godolphin’s Group 1 Golden Rose-winning sire Astern out of the Gimcrack Stakes-winning Lonhro mare Calaverite.
