The Gold Coast will play host many of Australia’s top horses, with the Magic Millions meeting taking place at Aquis Park on Saturday. Nearly $9.5 million worth prize money will be raced for, including the Magic Millions 2YO and 3YO Classics. The track has been graded a soft 5, but with the sun shining at Surfer’s Paradise on Friday, it could be upgraded by the time the nine race card gets underway at 12.15pm. Below we have run the rule through all races at the Gold Coast and given our free tips and best bets.

Race 1 – Magic Millions Maiden Plate (1200m)

The opener is a Maiden Plate over 1200m, and a capacity field has been assembled. Doctor Jack (#7) represents plenty of value here after a very nice trial where he split Away Game and Isotope. His form on race day is pretty handy, with two runner-up efforts from just the four starts. He’s drawn well in what will be barrier 9 after scratchings, so he should get the gun run and give punters a great sight. Newsreader (#16) is the best of the rest after running well in Sydney, behind talented horses in Macroura, Private Cheetah and Forbidden Love.

Selections: 7-16-8-1

Race 2 – Magic Millions Open Handicap (1800m)

Race favourite, Paradee (#3) looks pretty hard to beat here after she won in similar class at this track and distance on Saturday. Craig Williams retains the ride, and while he will have to work early from gate 11 to find a spot, there should be enough time to slot in along the side. She brings north some very handy Victorian form, and will need it in this smart field. Willo Titto (#10) is loving her racing at the moment, with four straight wins to her name at the back end of last campaign. She resumed in very good style, running second at Eagle Farm last start behind Smart ‘n’ Sexy when she found the worst part of the track along the fence. Costa’s mare loves this track, so she could cause an upset.

Selections: 3-10-5-11

Race 3 – Frizelle Sunshine Magic Millions Subzero (2400m)

One of the better bets on the card in our opinion comes up here in the Subzero over 2400m. Chris Anderson’s Ballistic Boy (#1) has been very kind to us in the past, and we are prepared to stick with him again here. The son of Smart Missile has only ever been beyond 2000m once and he won in style at Group 3 level as a three-year-old, so the extra trip should be perfect for him. Last start he finished fifth to Paradee at this track just seven days ago and looked disappointing from a market perspective, but he really knuckled down late, once he got his bearings around the tighter track. Out to 2400m should suit this handy galloper. He will just have to carry the top weight and handle the track better than last time to be competitive.

Selections: 1-6-5-3

Race 4 – It’s Live! In Queensland Magic Millions Snippets (1200m)

This is easily the toughest race of the day with differing form lines coming from all over the country and speed to burn early over the six furlong trip. We are leaning slightly towards Exhilarates (#9), but with very little confidence. She won the 2YO Classic here two years ago, and has placed in both the 3YO Magic Millions Guineas and the Gold Coast Guineas, boasting an impressive record at the track. She has drawn wide, but will get back and be hitting the line hard out wide. Stablemate Roheryn (#3) is another in a similar situation, as he’ll get back and tends to take time to wind up, so the tight track may not suit him. King Of Hastings (#13) was very good last up when wide at Sydney as well, and he should get a nice run in transit under Glen Boss.

Selections: 9-13-3-2

Race 5 – Magic Millions Fillies & Mares (3YO & Up) (1300m)

Athiri (#2) bolted in at Eagle Farm a fortnight ago in the Nudgee Stakes and is now looking for three straight wins. She has drawn really well in barrier 5 for Nash Rawiller who will allow her to find a comfortable position on the back of the speed. Athiri is a mare in form and we expect her to win again here. The Maher & Eustace trained Snapdancer (#9) has been set for this for some time now and she has had the perfect preparation, winning her two starts this time in by a combined margin of 5L. She’ll be outside Athiri in the run and will likely be right there in the finish with her. For a bit of value, Outback Barbie (#3) always runs well this time of year and at this track, so she could be an each way play under Michael Rodd from the inside draw.

Selections: 2-9-3-6

Race 9 – Racing Queensland Magic Millions QTIS Open Handicap (1300m)

The Odyssey (#2) is yet to prove himself over 1300m, but the price is exceptionally tempting. Drawn barrier 5, Steph Thornton will be able to take him straight to the front under very little effort, which could be the line in the sand between winning and losing. He was very brave last start at Eagle Farm when he got ran down late by Roheryn, who is rock solid in an earlier race. The Better Than Ready entire loves the Gold Coast and should be in this for a very long way. Beaufort Park (#9) has to step up to Open grade here but has been racing in very good fashion of late and should get a sweet run behind the speed from the three alley. Race favourite, Yamazaki (#10) always puts in a good performance here, and is another who should benefit from the low draw.

Selections: 2-9-10-3
