The Magic Millions Cup looks a genuine conundrum for punters late on in the day, so we will do our part to narrow it down. Run over 1400m for $1M, it will be a hotly contested affair, despite a lack of speed on paper.
Discharged should find the front easy enough, while The Astrologist, Deep Image and Snowzone are also likely to be handy. Yao Dash is the current favourite for the race, ahead of Eleven Eleven and Discharged.
We are happy to side with Eleven Eleven here who is looking for a hattrick of wins. The Fastnet Rock gelding won the 3YO Magic Millions Guineas this time last year, won the Wyong Magic Millions Guineas this year and then won impressively at Canterbury in the Christmas Classic, beating Discharged. Up to 1400m looks a great recipe here, and Nash Rawiller on board is a big advantage. From barrier 5, he’ll be stalking the speed and should be able to go on with the job.
Team Hawkes place their horses exceptionally well, and Outrageous is no different here. The son of All Too Hard won two straight in style before stepping out to the mile at Group 2 level and finding it a bridge too far. Back to 1400m and drawn to get the gun run here, Hugh Bowman can guide the five-year-old to victory at a great each way price. He’s the value in the Magic Millions Cup.
Soxagon is another who is shooting for three straight wins, so he must be included, especially at the price. Both wins this time in have seen him drawn a touch awkward, get caught wide and still prove too good. So from barrier 3, he should be able to rule bad luck out of the equation. Glen Boss hops back on board here, and a return to the Gold Coast, where he is undefeated in two starts will help. The son of Rocker can box seat and with luck he can win again.
