Form and free tips for the Randwick Guineas, Saturday March 4

Randwick tips

RAIN threatens to derail the Group 1 Randwick Guineas meeting this Saturday, but wet tracks are apart of autumn racing and good fields will still be presented.

The high quality meeting also features the Reisling Stakes where Houtzen and She Will Reign could square off against each other. The unbeaten stars have handled wet tracks in the past and punters will be hoping for a classic clash on Saturday.

The Group 2 Todman Stakes should be an exciting race and the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes has attracted a small, but quality field for the $500,000 prize.

Race 1 – Affinity Shipping Reisling Stakes (1200m)

She Will Reign is the short $1.45 favourite after remaining unbeaten from three starts. The Gary Portelli-trained filly scored an impressive 1.5-length win in the Silver Slipper last start and punters know it will handle the conditions after winning by four lengths in the Inglis Nursery.

Houtzen is another unbeaten runner from three starts which scored an impressive win in the Magic Millions Classic. The Toby Edmonds-trained two-year-old scored a four-length win on debut over subsequent winner Garrard and a 4.5-length win victory at the Gold Coast following that. It has the ability to upset the favourite and the $4.60 is a good price.

From Within didn’t fire in the Magic Millions, but it has good natural speed and it could lead them throughout. The Chris Waller-trained filly looked good when winning on debut and it needs to find the front to shows its best. Not the worst at $8.

Race 1 tip: Houtzen to win ($4.60) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 2 – Todman Stakes (1200m)

Chauffeur was flashing home behind Houtzen last time out and that form should stack up nicely. The Gerald Ryan-trained colt will likely get better over more ground than the 1200m, but it might relish the conditions and it will be putting in the big bounds late. $7.50 with bookmakers.

Menari was a stylish winner on debut before being desperately unlucky last start. The Ryan-trained colt finished a length behind Pariah in the Canonbury Stakes which has subsequently run second in the Blue Diamond Stakes. It has drawn nicely in barrier two and the money in on at $2.80.

Trekking scored its debut win at Rosehill over Goodfella and it has been primed with a trial placing. The John O’Shea-trained colt was the short $1.90 favourite on that occasion, but punters are getting much better value at $7 here.

Race 2 tip: Menari to win (+180 at CrownBet.com.au)

Race 3 – Bradley Australia Fireball Stakes (1100m)

Scarlet Rain is the quality runner of the field after winning four of its six starts. The Waterhouse/Bott-trained filly is unbeaten in two starts on this track and it wasn’t disgraced when carrying 62kg at Rosehill last start. Looks tough to beat at $3.50 after opening at $3.70.

The bubble burst with Glenall last start, but there’s still plenty of confidence in the colt. The Les Bridge-trained colt won by 3.3 lengths on debut before being beaten on its merits at Randwick last start. It has been well-supported at $4 and another solid effort is expected.

Super Maxi ran well on a heavy track last start and it could impress punters with similar conditions here. The Hawkes-trained gelding is twice a winner at this distance and the $11 on offer is a great price from bookmakers. Not the worst each way chance.

Race 3 tip: Scarlet Rain to win ($3.50) at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 4 – Schweppes Wenona Girl Quality (1200m)

Zestful is a five-time winner from 11 starts which scored an almighty win at Randwick last start. The Kris Lees-trained mare is a three-time winner at this distance and despite having no form on rain-affected tracks, it has the confidence up and punters are confident at $5.

Nancy looked the winner last time out before being nabbed by Zestful on the line. The Snowden-trained mare is a past winner on a rain-affected track and it should be able to get the last crack at them here. It’s currently on the second line of betting at $5.

Hieroglyphics has scored two quality wins at its last two starts and it has good winning experience on wet tracks. The Anthony Cummings-trained mare has won twice on a slow track and Joao Moreira takes the ride at only 54.5kg. The inside draw might not help its chances.

Race 4 tip: Nancy to win ($5) at Bet365.com

Race 5 – Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m)

Le Romain couldn’t have been more impressive when winning the Southern Cross Stakes last start. The Lees-trained gelding was too good for its rivals in the straight and it has winning experience in the wet. It has recorded three wins on this track and the $4.80 available is a good price.

There is plenty of hype surrounding Chautauqua, which has been very disappointing at its last three starts. The Hawkes-trained sprinter is being tried over the longer distances as it hasn’t been running on over the shorter distances. It runs best on dry tracks, but has form in the wet and it should be tough to beat at odds of $2.70.

Ugo Foscolo is a former New Zealand runner which won the New Zealand 2000 Guineas last start. NZ form has already shown up in Sydney and this three-year-old has plenty of talent to show off. It has experience winning on wet tracks and it won’t have to improve much to beat these at the weights.

Race 5 tip: Le Romain to win (+380) at CrownBet.com.au

Race 6 – Hyland Race Colours Challenge Stakes (1000m)

Punters will be hoping English can turn around a poor campaign. The Waterhouse/Bott-trained mare didn’t fire in any of its four starts, which included an 11th in the Darley Classic last time out. The four-year-old has plenty of ability which is why bookmakers currently have it at $3.90.

Redzel won’t mind the soggy conditions and it’s coming off a top quality campaign. The Snowden-trained gelding is a past winner on this track and the wide draw should be ideal at this time of the day. It has been prepared with some good trial efforts and it should be included in selections at $4.20.

Ball Of Muscle is an each way chance and it could get away with a soft lead. The Joe Pride-trained gelding hasn’t won for awhile now, but it prefers racing right handed and it should give punters a sight in the straight.

Race 6 tip: Redzel to win ($4.20) at WilliamHill.com.au

Race 7 – Girvan Waugh Randwick Guineas (1600m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1130226_07]

Inference is unbeaten in two second up starts and there were encouraging signs fresh. The Hawkes-trained colt loves running in the wet after winning by two lengths at Pakenham on a slow track. Its runs since have been in tough races such as the Victorian Derby and the wide draw won’t be issue. Currently $6.50 in the betting.

Comin’ Through is a quality colt for Chris Waller which was finishing off well in the Hobartville Stakes. The three-year-old scored a top win in the Carbine Club Stakes at Flemington last campaign and anything near that run will take it close at odds of $4.60.

Echo Effect was narrowly beaten last start and it could produce a similar effort. The Kristen Buchanan-trained gelding stepped right up in grade last start and it proved its worth by finishing second in the Hobartville. It’s unbeaten in two heavy runs and it could be worth an each way bet.

Race 7 tip: Comin’ Through to win (+360) at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 8 – City Ford Aspiration Quality (1600m)

Elle Lou relished the wet conditions and it should be strongly backed throughout the week. The Waller-trained mare has won six from eight starts on a slow track and although it hasn’t won in the heavy, it has placed four times. It loves Randwick and the 55.5kg on its back is ideal. $5 chance with bookmakers.

Alegria has rattled off three-straight placings and it grows another leg in the wet. The O’Shea-trained five-year-old has placed in six from seven at this track and two career wins have come on a heavy surface. It should get a good run in transit and be tough to hold out.

Circular has plenty of ability and it has race fitness on its side. The O’Shea-trained four-year-old won back-to-back races earlier this campaign and the conditions aren’t an issue. Consider here at $5.

Race 8 tip: Elle Lou to win (+400) at Palmerbet.com.au

Race 9 – Girvan Waugh Randwick City Stakes (2000m)

Classic Uniform is a past winner on this track and it comes into this having defeated a nice field last start. The Gary Moore-trained four-year-old runs best on wet tracks and it should appreciate carrying a nice weight of 55kg with Andrew Adkins in the saddle.

Astronomos has won four from five starts on the wet tracks and it loves running at Randwick. The John Thompson-trained gelding has the class edge over this field and dropping right down in weight is ideal. Punters are getting a good price of $5.50 which will likely be snapped up.

Our Century is an imported runner which boxed on well behind Hard Call last start. The Robert Hickmott-trained gelding has plenty of staying ability and although it hasn’t performed on wet tracks, it’s bred to handle them.

Race 9 tip: Astronomos to win ($5.50) at CrownBet.com.au
