Favourites secure ideal draws for Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes
European import Via Sistina continues to lead the betting as the $2.40 favourite for Saturday’s Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick, having drawn barrier five of 11 in the weight-for-age Group 1.
The Chris Waller-trained mare impressed with a comfortable victory in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) on her Australian debut last month, piloted by James McDonald, who retains the mount for this weekend.
All-Star Mile (1600m) victor Pride Of Jenni secured barrier three, while Godolphin’s recent Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) champion Cascadian will start from gate six.
“He’s a remarkable, outstanding racehorse. To do what he’s done and what he’s achieved over a period of time… he’s been competing at the highest level all the way through since he came to Australia,” remarked Godolphin representative Darren Beadman regarding the nine-year-old.
“He’s giving everyone a lot of cheek… he certainly doesn’t show his age, he’s such a competitor and a team favorite for everyone.”
