Eagles Farm betting tips & quaddie picks – Saturday, 23 May 2020

The revamped Queensland Winter Racing Carnival is now well and truly underway with three star-studded Group races at Eagle Farm on Saturday. The sun might not be shining in the Sunshine State, but we should be racing on a Good 4 with the rail in the true position. We will be keeping a close eye on these races, as they look like great lead-ups into the Group 1 races over the next month in Queensland. The Champagne Classic will be one of the most exciting races on the card with what shapes to be a one-on-one match between Isotope and Rothfire.
Saturday racing tips for Eagle Farm
Race 1 – Tumbler Ridge @ $1.85
We will be in the winners’ circle very early on in the day if Tumbler Ridge can win like we expect him to. Steven O’Dea’s 2yo has enjoyed a purple patch of late, finishing in the money in his last four starts, and he can add to that record by winning this. He is now a month between runs and drops back to 1200m, which should suit him. Justin Huxtable’s claim takes him down to 59.5kg, which will be of great benefit. He should push forward from barrier six and take a power of beating in what appears to be a fairly weak 2yo race.
Race 2 – Thy Kingdom Come @ $3.40 Sportsbet
John Thompson has elected to scratch his gelding from Randwick tomorrow in preference for this race. Thy Kingdom Come maps to lead from barrier five under Ryan Maloney and we believe he should be too good for his rivals. He looked home in his last start on the Kensington track before being grabbed on the post by Phaistos. This looks a very suitable race for the Lope de Vega 5yo as he looks to build on his superb 1400m form. Main market rivals Red Chase and Tricky Gal will be spotting him a fair start upon cornering and we expect the margin to be too great to reel in. We are confident we can find the first two winners on the card.
Race 9 – Trail Of Glory
Trail Of Glory has shown plenty of ability in her 19-start career but has just failed to put it all together on a few occasions. She hit the line beautifully last start at the Sunshine Coast behind Hollaback Girl and the extra 200m here looks to be the perfect recipe for her. Leading trainer Tony Gollan has booked senior ride Jim Byrne to guide the 4yo around. Jumping from barrier three, she will get back and use the entire Eagle Farm straight to get there, but we think she can. If Hollaback Girl runs well in Race 5, it will only build our confidence. The $6 appeals on an each-way basis.
