Eagle Farm Boxing Day preview
Nine races will be run and won at Eagle Farm on Boxing Day this weekend, headlined by the B.J. McLachlan Stakes and Grand Prix Stakes. The track is rated a Soft 5 at the moment, but with good weather around, we can expect an upgrade by Saturday. The rail is in the true position, and the first race is set to jump at 12:13pm local time.
Trent & Toby Edmonds saddle up Hard Labour, who is shooting for five straight wins. The talented son of All Too Hard won impressively at Ipswich two starts back when beating Tracy May, Miss Cavallo and Adelase, who have all run very well since. He steps up to a 1400m Class 6 but stays at the same weight he carried to victory last start in a 1350m Benchmark 72. Jumping from barrier three, we should see him box seat under Robbie Fradd and prove too smart for these.
James Cummings’ trio of runners in this race occupy the top three spots in the market. Roheryn comes into this first up after a lovely trial at Canterbury 10 days ago. He is undefeated first up from four starts and has won four from seven over the 1200m. With Michael Rodd on board, he will get great benefit from the speed battle that looks to be set by Inquiry, Special Reward, Mr Marbellouz and The Odyssey. Being drawn out wider will suit, giving the big son of Lonhro plenty of room in the straight.
Michael Costa’s five-year-old mare Seentoomany was a good thing beaten two starts back at Doomben when running 13th of 15. While the 10.25-length margin and finishing position make that hard to believe, she was deadset bolting when the run closed due to eventual winner Purrfect Deal getting the split. Brad Stewart hops back aboard for this assignment over 2200m, and there looks to be enough speed in the race to cart them into it in the straight from barrier seven. With even luck, Seentoomany wins this.
