Doomben will play host to its second metropolitan meeting in the space of three days on Wednesday, with a nine-race program scheduled to see in the winter months. HorseBetting’s Queensland racing expert presents his best bets and quaddie numbers for the meeting, which is set to begin at 11:26am AEST. The track has improved from a Heavy 8 to a Soft 6 this week and could be upgraded further on race day, while the rail moves from the 4m position to the 6.5m position.
Best Bet at Doomben – Palaisipan
The final race of the afternoon is a rescheduled Benchmark 85 Handicap over 1640m, and there appears to be a fantastic winning chance there. Chris Munce and Boris Thornton combine with classy mare Palaisipan, who drops right back in grade after running a brilliant fifth in the Listed Bright Shadow over 1200m at Eagle Farm on May 14. That looks the right form for this daughter of So You Think to bring to a BM85, considering that both Tahitian Dancer and Juan Diva came out of that race and ran very well on Saturday in Listed grade again. She should get a good run from barrier two and give this race a real shake as she searches for win six at start 10.

Best Value at Doomben – Thunder Mania
We have always had an opinion of Thunder Mania, and by all reports, the trainers have too. This is a horse with some form at Group 1 level, having run a terrific sixth behind Rothfire in the 2020 J.J. Atkins. Obviously that was two years ago and he has not won since, but he has run well behind Shooting For Gold, Isotope and Kingsford Smith Cup winner Apache Chase in that period. The four-year-old often trials well – which he did again on May 3 – while two of his three wins have been when first-up. There can be a real case made for this horse on Wednesday.
