Racing heads to Cranbourne on Friday evening for an eight-part card kicking off at 5:45pm AEDT, and HorseBetting’s Victorian form expert will make sure it is no joke on April Fool’s Day in helping find a few winners. We’re racing on a Good 4 track with the rail in the true position, so there should be no excuses for fancied runners in perfect conditions. Here are our top tips for the night, with odds from the best betting sites in Australia.
BEST BET: INVINCIBLE BAY
Our best bet of the night comes up in the opening leg of the quaddie, when the Lloyd Kennewell-trained Invincible Bay steps out over 1500m. Having not been beaten far in the Country Mile Series Final at Flemington on March 19, the step back to a BM64 over 1500m looks to be ideal. Having gained a perfect run in transit on that day, the I Am Invincible gelding was beaten a touch over a length, having seemingly peaked on his run inside the final 100m. Having drawn barrier three with Craig Newitt on his back, the four-year-old gelding looks set to gain a run in the one-one throughout, which should set him up to unleash a nice turn of foot. He won over 1400m at Cranbourne earlier in the campaign, so we know he will handle the conditions, and if he runs anywhere close to his recent form, Invincible Bay looks a clear best of the night.
NEXT BEST: AIR BLUE
The Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained Air Blue is yet to finish outside of the top three in his first three career starts and looks set to continue that trend on Friday. The Air Force Blue gelding managed to kick clear in the home straight at Kilmore on March 10 when breaking his maiden, despite needing to punch the breeze throughout. He jumps from barrier three for this assignment, so we expect to see Froggy Newitt have him settled in the first four, if not lead this field up. He has the most upside out of his rivals and stepping up to the 1300m third-up from a spell looks ideal. We’re more than happy with this price at Ladbrokes.
BEST VALUE: AREYOULISTENING
In the final race of the night, we are expecting the Shawn Mathrick-trained Areyoulistening to build on his last start third at Yarra Valley when chasing home Yulong Phelps and The Running Man. He comes against The Running Man again on Friday night and having been beaten by just 0.3 lengths by his rival last time out, we think the Zoustar gelding can turn the table on his rival. Despite not a running inside the top three at three goes at the Cranbourne 1000m, we expect his recent form to be more than good enough in a race like this. With a win and two minor placings to his name in his last four starts, Areyoulistening looks to present great value with Bet365.
