Victorian country racing heads to Cranbourne Turf Club on Friday evening, with a massive eight-part program set for decision. The rail is out +9m for the entire circuit, and with no rainfall predicted in the lead-up, the Soft 6 surface should be upgraded to the Good range at some stage. The opener is scheduled to go at 5:15pm local time.
Best Bet at Cranbourne: Disco Prince
Disco Prince appears ready to peak fourth-up after a terrific effort in his latest outing at Sale on May 5. The son of Justify whacked away on the three-wide line throughout the 1728m journey, and although he never seemed likely to chase down What A Cross, his work through the wire caught the eye. Getting to the 2080m should be ideal, and with a soft run from gate three as Jamie Mott takes the reins, Disco Prince should get every chance to shirk the maiden tag.

Next Best at Cranbourne: Shyleah
Two starts for two minor placings has Shyleah ticking over nicely heading into this 1300m maiden contest. The filly by Shalaa worked home nicely in her latest start at Benalla on May 7, racing wide but closing the gap to within two lengths of Superior Zara. She’ll strip fitter for that effort, and as Billy Egan gets the opportunity to slot in for an economical run from stall one, watch for Shyleah to be finishing off best.

Next Best Again at Cranbourne: Amleto
Amleto is third-up for the Ciaron Maher barn since arriving from the UK and hasn’t had much luck. He was left flat-footed and crowded for room at Flemington on April 25, unable to get through his gears as the race went on. He’s a genuine stayer, and with his only win overseas coming over a similar distance at Chester 12 months ago, this looks to be the perfect setup for Amleto to reproduce his scintillating best.
