Are we looking at a legitimate star of the future in Royal Symphony or just another over-hyped, underwhelming colt?
Many are tipping that the bubble may have burst for the Tony McEvoy-trained three-year-old following its first-ever defeat in the Guineas Prelude, but we believe that fourth-placed finish was excusable given the on-pace nature of Caulfield that day.
Barrier nine could see the horse run another wide race here but the lessons will be learned from the prelude. It will take another disastrous run for Royal Symphony not to be featured in the finish on Saturday.

History suggests the Guineas is a male-dominated race, but can the Blue Diamond Stakes winner Catchy buck that trend?
Racing on the same day as Royal Symphony at the beginning of the month, Catchy was a victim again of the on-speed bias and the huge weight it had to lug, but in a testament to the filly’s ability it still finished in third.
This time the horse carries a generous 4kg less than that race, and from barrier three – which could favour the horse – we are backing a bounce back performance against the lads.

In the Caulfield Guineas this year we think it will be a girl who reigns supreme over the boys.
Catchy has been hit-and-miss in the big ones so far in its career, but there are just so many positives heading into this race that cannot be ignored.
A horse of Catchy’s classs getting a huge weight relief is a gigantic tick, as is the brilliant Caulfield record which has seen the horse win three times and place a further two across five runs.
The filly has lost just once when carrying 56.5kg or under in its career so far, and the loss came in that diabolical Golden Slipper run.
We see the biggest challenge in this race coming from Royal Symphony but in reality we do not see the colt getting close to Catchy. We recommend taking the $4.50 quote at Sportsbet before the price tightens further ahead of Saturday’s feature.
