The Caulfield Autumn Classic is a Group 2 race for three-year-olds, run over 1800m under set weight conditions, hosted by the Melbourne Racing Club at Caulfield.
First held as the Stanley Plate in 1957 over 2000m, it was renamed the Autumn Classic in 1987 and has run at 1800m since.
The Caulfield Autumn Classic held Listed status from 1979 to 1988, became Group 3 until 1993, and has been Group 2 since 1994.
Traditionally held at Caulfield, it was run at Flemington in 1996 and Sandown in 2023 due to renovations.
Triscay (1991) and Parure (2021) are the only fillies to claim the Caulfield Autumn Classic.
The 2024 Caulfield Autumn Classic winner was Immediacy, defeating Caracas and Our Couver.

- Immediacy ($5.00) maintained his unbeaten start to his career with an impressive win in the Group 2 Autumn Classic at Caulfield, giving Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young their first victory in the race. After leaving the barriers well, Luke Currie allowed his mount to settle in behind the speed before peeling off the leader’s heels on the home turn and let down with a blistering turn of foot in the home straight. The son of Tarzino ran straight past Socks Nation ($6.00) and Time To Chat ($41.00) along with Our Couver ($17.00), but he was quick to shake off the challenge of the horse on his inside and careered away to win by three lengths.
- Jamie Kah and James Cummings combined with Pericles to take out the Group 2 Autumn Classic over 1800m at Sandown, defeating the fast finishing Mr Maestro and Ausbred Rising Sun by a good margin. The Gai Waterhouse-trained Acosta led the field up with the equal second favourite Hennessy Lad sitting outside of it, setting up a solid tempo for the staying event. With Pericles recording his second career win, it sees him return to the winners circle for the first time since his debut win back in September of 2022. The Street Boss gelding was well backed by punters, jumping as a $3.50 favourite with online betting sites, and saluting for his resilient followers in fine style.
- “From an ugly duckling to a beautiful swan,” those were the words that Gai Waterhouse used to describe her Autumn Classic-winning three-year-old Castlereagh Kid. Having claimed a Gosford maiden a month prior, the Snitzel gelding has since gone on to claim a BM64 at Sandown, before going to Caulfield and leading throughout the Group 2 event over 1800m. The win was aided by an absolute peach of a steer from Damien Oliver, with the champion hoop gaining cheap sectionals at a crucial time which left Castlereagh Kid with plenty left in the tank when it mattered most. Having been sent around as a $3.80 favourite with most online betting sites, Ollie made sure the favourite punters had no worries in the running when gaining a record fifth win in the race.
