First Race 12:20pm AEDT

Caulfield Racecourse is set to host a bumper eight-race meeting on Australia Day, and HorseBetting’s Victorian tipping expert presents his best bets and free quaddie picks for Wednesday’s action. The track has come up a Good 4, the rail is out 6m for the entire circuit, and racing is set to commence at 12:20pm AEDT.

Race 1: Blue Diamond Preview – C&G (1000m)

The Blue Diamond Stakes preparation officially kicks off on Wednesday when the Preview races for the boys and then the girls kickstart the Caulfield card. A field of six blokes are set to compete over 1000m, and we are hoping the Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained Philosopher can remain undefeated. The two-year-old colt out of Zoustar managed to keep finding over the track and distance on debut when leading up. A similar effort here will see Philosopher prove too hard to run down under a well-rated ride from Damien Oliver, who sticks on board.

Selections: 1-2-5-4

Race 2: Blue Diamond Preview – Fillies (1000m)

The second of the Blue Diamond Previews is for the fillies, and we are hoping the Philosopher form stands up when Jewellery comes to the race second-up. The filly out of Lonhro simply gave the eventual winner too much of a start having settled at the rear of the field, but she managed to eat into the margin with great intent. She will need to get back in the running once again, but if she presents a similar turn of foot as she did on debut, then we are happy to take the $4 on offer from Sportsbet.

Selections: 5-2-1-7

Race 3: 3YO Fillies BM70 Handicap (1100m)

One of our better bets of the day comes up when the undefeated Asfoora steps out over 1100m. The three-year-old Flying Artie filly was an impressive second-up winner at Stawell on January 7 when putting over three lengths on her closest rival. She managed to gain a suck run in transit on that day and produced a nice turn of foot on the back of it. From barrier seven on Wednesday, she will need a bit of luck to gain such a luxury; however, if she produces anything like what she did at Stawell, then Asfoora should be taking her record to three wins from as many starts.

Selections: 2-1-4-3

Next Best Race 3 – Asfoora (#2) $4.20 with Bet365

Race 4: W.J. Adams Stakes (1000m)

Our best bet of the day comes up in the W.J. Adams Stakes, where last-start winner Enthaar will be looking to make it back-to-back wins at the track and distance. The three-year-old filly out of Written Tycoon broke the track record for the 1000m dash last time out, and a repeat of that effort is more than good enough for a field like this. She draws barrier two and under Jye McNeil will look to roll forward, run her rivals ragged and bring her Oakleigh Plate credentials to the fore once again.

Selections: 3-2-1-5

Best BetRace 4 – Enthaar (#3) $1.85 with Bet365

Race 5: BM84 Handicap (2000m)

The quaddie opens up with a wide-open BM84 affair over 2000m where the Simon Zahra-trained Dirty Deeds can bring up successive wins. Having settled on the leader’s back over 1800m at Caulfield on January 8, the five-year-old son of Dundeel managed to barge through on the rails and claim victory by over two lengths. From barrier six, we anticipate Josh Richards will look to have him settled in the one-one, where he will most likely gain a tow into the race, and with a bit of luck and a nice turn of foot, he should prove too good once again.

Selections: 6-10-3-5

Best ValueRace 6 – Dirty Deeds (#6) $6.50 with Sportsbet

Race 6: John Dillon Stakes (1400m)

Since arriving in Australia, the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Lighthouse has simply been breathtaking, including when winning the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes at Flemington on January 1. Despite being held up for a run in the early part of the home straight, the former American let down strongly to win in soft fashion once again. The field she meets here is no harder, and with three wins from as many starts at 1400m, she looks a clear top tip in the John Dillon Stakes. From barrier six, we expect to see Jye McNeil settle the mare out of Mizzen Mast in the second half of the field, where she can use her turn of foot to finish right over the top of her rivals.

Selections4-2-5-3

Race 7: BM70 Handicap (1400m)

Over The Sky returns to the track some 30 weeks after we last saw him, and he looks a good bet at odds in the third leg of the quaddie. The five-year-old son of Tavistock has two wins and a minor placing from three first-up runs, so we know he will more than handle the occasion. He gains the services of Thomas Stockdale, who is set to claim 2kg and get him in with just 60.5kg on his back. He does his best racing when up on speed, and from barrier two, we expect Stockdale to have him settled in a handy spot. He has always shown a strong turn of foot, and as long as this race isn’t run at a breakneck speed, Over The Sky should prove too good at a double-figure quote.

Selections: 1-2-7-10

Race 8: Fillies & Mares BM70 Handicap (1400m)

We will be looking to end Australia Day on a high when the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Yonce steps out over 1400m. The four-year-old mare of Proisir was a dominant 3.25-length winner on the Sandown Hillside track on January 5 and looks primed to go on with it here. She is undefeated in two career runs, and in both she settled midfield and produced a turn of foot to hit the front a furlong out and finish over the top. If Yonce brings a similar effort here, she looks a great bet in the last. Look for John Allen to have her moving through the gears approaching the home straight before putting them away.
