Beau Rossa gains Pannell’s Magic touch

Beau Rossa
Beau Rossa is set to begin his summer campaign with a run in the Listed Falvelon Quality.

It is not very often that Todd Pannell rides outside of South Australia, but the two-time Group 1-winning hoop is set to partner the Will Clarken-trained Beau Rossa at Doomben on Sunday in the Listed Falvelon Quality.

The four-year-old son of Unencumbered is set to have his first start for his summer campaign en route to a run in the $1m Magic Millions Snippets (1200m) on January 15 at the Gold Coast.

Pannell has been on the back of Beau Rossa for seven of his 13 career starts, having won on four separate occasions including a win on July 31 in the Listed Lightning Stakes at Morphettville.

The chestnut gelding would subsequently go on and duke it out with Behemoth in both the Group 3 Spring Stakes and Group 1 Memsie Stakes, where he could do no better than a second-place finish in both races.

We have not seen Beau Rossa since he finished seventh in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, beaten 2.4 lengths behind Sierra Sue.

Beau Rossa returned in fine style with an impressive trial win at Rosehill on December 14 ahead of his summer campaign and looked like he handled the clockwise track perfectly ahead of his Queensland assault.

With Clarken originally planning a run in the Winterbottom Stakes, but a trial at Rosehill was the next best option.

The South Australian is currently a $4.80 chance with online bookmakers for the Falvelon Quality on Doomben’s nine-race card on Boxing Day. With Beau Rossa being Pannell’s only ride of the day, the stable and jockey both mean business.
