The build-up to the Alice Springs Cup Carnival starting in March continues with 35 horses accepting for the six-event card at Pioneer Park this Saturday.
With sunny conditions and a top temperature of 39C the forecast, it will once again be an early start, with the first race set to jump at 10:30am ACDT. It will be a dry dirt surface, and the rail will be in the true position.
Best Bet at Alice Springs: Delago Lad
Returning from a spell in December, Delago Lad was forced three deep after sitting on the early speed before going down by half a length over 1200m at 0-58 level. In his next two starts over 1200m in 0-64 grade, the seven-year-old gelding led throughout to prevail by 4.5 lengths and 1.3 lengths. On January 18, the son of Delago Deluxe settled third over 1100m in the 0-70 ranks and was forced three deep at the home turn before sealing victory. Delago Lad will once again take a power of stopping.

Next Best at Alice Springs: Zesty Spice
After coming second over 1400m against Class 2 opposition and seventh over 1200m at 0-64 level in December, Zesty Spice has started 2025 superbly. The four-year-old gelding has left the opposition in his wake with three big wins over 1400m. Leading throughout each time, the son of Squamosa saluted by 3.8 lengths in BM54 class and 3.5 lengths in a 0-64 in January before prevailing by three lengths in 0-70 class last Sunday. Zesty Spice steps up in class again, but that shouldn’t be an issue.

Best Value at Alice Springs: Bold Tropic
Bold Tropic has done little wrong this prep. In December, the seven-year-old gelding sat deep at the back of the field over 1200m in 0-58 grade before storming home for a narrow win and was second when 4.5 lengths adrift of Delago Lad over 1200m at 0-64 level. Camped deep at the back of the field after drawing yet another wide barrier, the son of Zoustar made ground in the home straight to finish third over 1100m in a 0-58 on January 5. Finally drawing a good gate enhances Bold Tropic’s hopes.
