A total of 40 horses have accepted for the Alice Springs Turf Club’s five-event meeting. There is the slight chance of a shower on Sunday, and it should be a partly cloudy day with a top temperature of 25C. The rail will be in the true position, and it will once again be a good dirt surface.

Talent Quest debuted in the Red Centre in July 2023 for a first-up second. The son of Your Song was then placed on three other occasions in his next six starts before saluting last November over 1100m (0-58). The six-year-old gelding returned to action for a first-up win over 1000m (BM54) in July after sharing the lead before kicking away to win by two lengths. He once again shared the lead two weeks ago over 1200m (BM66) and was in strife before lifting over the final 100m to seal a narrow victory.

NEXT BEST BET: Delago Lad

Delago Lad was a last-start second two weeks ago when he finished 0.3 lengths behind Talent Quest in the $40,000 Red Centre Winter Series Final. That was after coming second over 1200m (0-64) behind Il Don Cavallo on June 30. Victorious over 1200m (BM54) on May 5, the son of Delago Deluxe was fourth over 1100m (0-64) on June 1 before sealing the deal over 1100m (0-64) on June 16. Formerly trained by Russell Bell, Delago Lad has seven wins from 21 starts in Alice.

Valley Prince hasn’t tasted victory since saluting over 1200m (0-64) in January, but the seven-year-old gelding has been knocking on the door after finishing second in three of his past four starts. That includes a last start second over 1400m (0-58) on July 14. Valley Prince debuted at Pioneer Park in March 2021 and won his first four starts – including the NT Guineas. He has had 43 starts for Gillett for nine wins and 15 minor placings. In an open race, Valley Prince’s early $11 quote with horse racing bookmakers caught the eye.
