Metropolitan racing heads to Doomben on Monday for a nine-race program that oozes quality right from the start. HorseBetting’s Queensland racing analyst presents you with his best bets, value bet and quaddie numbers for the program, which is set to begin at 11:25am AEST. The track is rated a Heavy 9, but the track is drying with every day of sunshine, while the rail is out 4m for the entire course. We aren’t mucking around, with our best bet set to jump in race one.
Best Bet at Doomben – Political Debate
We are pretty confident that Political Debate is the two-year-old to beat in the Group 1 J.J. Atkins (1600m) on June 11 at Eagle Farm, but if he is to even get a start in that race, he has to be winning on Monday. The beautifully bred colt ran a good second on debut at Canterbury, before running a huge third at Eagle Farm in the Spirit Of Boom Classic (1200m) a fortnight ago. He is the fourth emergency for Saturday’s Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at the time of writing, so we expect him to be lining up on Monday. If you needed anymore of a push, it is the only ride James McDonald has taken on Monday, so we expect him to be winning.

Best Value at Doomben – Top Order
We highlighted Top Order in The Follow Files a couple of weeks back after he ran a slashing second to the in-form Gave Us Up at Eagle Farm. Trainer Kim Anderson threw the stayer in the deep end at his next start and he ran accordingly, finishing 11 lengths off Yonkers in the Group 3 Chairman’s Handicap over 2143m at Eagle Farm. Now back to midweek company in a Benchmark 80, the grey son of Top Echelon should be pretty hard to beat if he can repeat the form he was in at the back end of 2021. Watch for him flashing late.
