The second leg of Sydney’s two-year-old Triple Crown will be run and won on Saturday when some of the best youngsters in the country step out in the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick. Golden Slipper winner Fireburn is the $2.45 favourite with online bookmakers, while Showcourt, She’s Extreme and Daumier are all at $8 apiece.

Counttheheadlights ($26) is likely to roll forward from the outside barrier, while Millane ($16), Man In The Mirror ($26) and Daumier ($8) will more than likely be handy to the speed as well. Fireburn should not be too far away in the run, with the 1400m and smaller field more likely to suit her racing pattern compared to the Golden Slipper.

Horses in the blue jacket of Godolphin have won two of the past three ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes with Microphone and Anamoe saluting in recent years, and we are expecting those colours to suit once again. Blue Diamond Stakes winner Daumier was good in the Golden Slipper a fortnight ago when four lengths behind Fireburn and Best Of Bordeaux. Trained by Anthony & Sam Freedman, this Group 1-winning colt by Epaulette looks to have been crying out for 1400m, so we expect him to come into his own on Saturday. Mark Zahra retains the ride, and from barrier 11 he should be able to settle down in the first few runners, where he will have the last say.

With the way that Fireburn won the Golden Slipper a fortnight ago, it is pretty hard to bet against the filly. The Gary Portelli-trained daughter of Rebel Dane absolutely romped in over 1200m to win the world’s richest juvenile race on March 19, suggesting that the 1400m will not be an issue. Despite the win at Group 1 level, Fireburn remains down on the minimum weight of 54.5kg, so there’s no penalty off her brilliant win. Having won four of her five career starts, this filly clearly looks the one to beat with Brenton Avdulla in the saddle once again.

Annabel Neasham and Hugh Bowman combine with expensive colt Man In The Mirror. The son of Not A Single Doubt beat Paris Dior on debut, before running fifth in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes and then chasing hard behind Let’srollthedice in the Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Flemington on March 12 over 1400m. Despite being yet to win on a Heavy track, Man In The Mirror’s dam won as a two-year-old at Group 2 level on a Heavy 8 surface, before running ninth in this very race. He can add the value.
