The Group 3 SA Fillies Classic sees a field of 16 three-year-old females battle it out for $150,000 over the staying distance of 2500m at Morphettville this Saturday. The Godolphin filly Flexible has come up a $3 favourite with online bookmakers following a narrow defeat in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks on May 1. Expect to see the Denis Pagan-trained My Squeeze Louise lead the field up with Chequerboard and Penso A Lei on her heels, while the race favourite should be one of the backmarkers. HorseBetting.com.au brings you the best bets, top odds and betting strategy for the 2021 SA Fillies Classic.

SA Fillies Classic betting preview

Finishing less than a length off the winner in a Group 1 is the form we want to be with. Flexible gave the leaders a fair start in the Australasian Oaks approaching the home turn but made up an abundance of ground in the home straight, which suggests she will appreciate the extra 500m on Saturday. With Damien Oliver on board and strong Sydney form behind Duais and Bargain, she looks primed to bring up her third career win and her first black-type success.

The Tom Dabernig & Ben Hayes-trained Mimi’s Award looks to have plenty of untapped ability and steps up to black-type racing for the first time in her career. The Shamus Award filly was simply too good for her rivals in a BM58 at Wangaratta when putting seven lengths on her closest rival. She has chased home Steinem earlier this preparation, and that horse looks to have a fair amount of ability herself. If she brings the kind of form she has shown this campaign, there is no reason why Mimi’s Award cannot give this a shake.

One to follow at a bit of a price is the Mick Huxtable-trained Shebringzit, who is on the quick seven-day backup following a fourth-placed finish in the South Australian Derby. Despite finishing six lengths off the winner in that race, the Sebring filly did make up plenty of ground from the rear of the field. If she can settle a pair or two closer to the speed this time, then she looks to be a genuine knockout hope.
