Yellow Brick ready for Gold Coast Guineas task

Yellow Brick is always in the finish with a career to prove it (7:5-1-1) and will be looking to continue that trend this Saturday.

Ready to get down to business after a 12-week break, the Tony & Maddysen Sears trained three-year-old will line up in the $200,000 Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas at the Sunshine Coast.

Yes, you read that correctly this year the 1200m Gold Coast Guineas will be run up the Bruce Highway, and has attracted a field of 15 quality runners.

Yellow Brick, the $3 favourite with horse betting sites, will be out of gate nine but a Sears Racing representative says that he has returned fresh from the let-up and is ready to go.

“He has come back great,” a stable representative said.

“He had a great trial and jump out.

“The barrier shouldn’t be an issue at the Sunny Coast.”

The gelded son of The Mission had a great last prep with Ben Thompson onboard, who retains the ride for Saturday. His last start was a close second in the Listed Magic Millions 3YO Guineas, beaten by 0.3L by Fashion Legend, who he meets again here.

In the race prior to that Yellow Brick won by 1.3 lengths at Toowoomba in the new King of the Mountain, beating home Alpine Edge who took out The Archer in Rockhampton last week.

“It’s probably the hardest race he has been in and I think it will be a very fair playing field on a dry track,” the Sears’ stable representative said.

The field is highly competitive and also includes the James Cummings-trained Space Walk and Annabel Neasham-trained Lady Laguna. Lady Laguna is looking to make it two straight after taking out the Listed Mick Dittman Plate last up.
