With A Promise inquiry finished

With A Promise
An inquiry into With A Promise’s Weetwood run has concluded.

Stewards have concluded an inquiry into the improved performance of Doomben winner With A Promise.

The Ben Currie-trained With A Promise ran last in the Weetwood Handicap (1200m) at Toowoomba on April 7 and two weeks later won the Listed Tails Stakes over 1600m.

Stewards opened an inquiry on Saturday but it was adjourned so trainer Currie could accompany another of the stable’s horses, Amanaat, to a veterinary clinic after he was injured in the barrier stalls.

At a resumed inquiry, Currie said in the Weetwood over 1200m, With A Promise travelled deep and the track had been hard.

He said he believed the step up to 1600m and the heavy Doomben surface had helped With A Promise.

Stewards closed the inquiry and noted his evidence.

An inquiry into activities at Currie’s Toowoomba stables on April 7 is set to continue in camera.

Two stable employees have been stood down and Currie’s trainer father Mark, a licensed trainer, has been suspended pending the inquiry into alleged race day treatment to horses in his son’s stable.
