Winterbottom Stakes head-to-head Social Solicitor vs Viddora

State Solicitor vs Viddora Zipping Classic

THE second of the big three of group one racing in Perth takes place this Saturday as Ascot hosts the $1 million Winterbottom Stakes.

In an upper-echelon field we have narrowed the feature race down to two. The headline generating local State Solicitor and the South Australian invader Viddora.

Both horses are well supported in the market, so the question is – where should your money go?

Horse Betting has crunched the numbers so you don’t have to. Enjoy the guide and win yourself some cash on this Saturday’s Group One Winterbottom Stakes.

State Solicitor form

State Solicitor
Can William Pike register his first-ever group one sprint win in the west aboard State Solicitor?

State Solicitor’s form is as good as you will see heading into a group one event, winning three consecutive races, but it almost wasn’t the case.

A Willie Pike masterclass in the Group Three Colonel Reeves Stakes saw the $1.40 favourite at Crownbet find the win from the almost impossible position of being behind a wall of horses, on the fence with next to no racing room entering the final stages of the race.

State Solicitor found an extra gear when it mattered, but if the horse encounters a similar issue in Saturday’s feature, the class of the field will be too strong to make up that late ground.

Still, winning form is good form and State Solicitor takes in the best recent record of any other runner into the race

Viddora form

Viddora has never won outside of South Australia in its (Mike Keating/Racing Photos)

Although Viddora has failed to produce a single win outside of its native South Australia, a tad more luck in several group one races in Victoria would have seen it register at least one title.

In the Group One Moir Stakes the horse was dudded by an unbelievable performance by She Will Reign and just two weeks later the horse finished within two lengths of Hey Doc in the Manikato Stakes.

The margin between winning and losing is so great in this business. If the horse registers a win in either or both of those races and it is an odds on favourite coming into this one.

Will Saturday be Viddora’s time to shine?

State Solicitor vs. Viddora betting tip

We are going the upset here and picking the South Aussie star Viddora.

We just loved the runs in the group one features at Moonee Valley, especially in the Moir Stakes photo-finish defeat. So often the horse is within less than a length of eventual winners in listed and group races, which will pique the interest of the blackbookers heading into the big name races.

State Solicitor is a deserved favourite, but we feel too much was made of the Colonel Reeves Stakes win. A half decent horse closing late would have smashed that field, and we think Pike hit the jackpot when the gap opened late.

We are taking Viddora to break the interstate hoodoo in the best possible manner in the Winterbottom Stakes.
