What Winter Challenge Day 2022
Where Rosehill Gardens Racecourse – James Ruse Dr, Rosehill NSW 2142
When Saturday, July 30, 2022
First Race 11:20am AEST

Originally set to be a 10-race card without any feature racing, Rosehill Gardens has picked up the re-scheduled Listed Winter Challenge after last weekend’s Randwick meeting was washed out with only one race run. The track this Saturday is rated a Heavy 9, while the rail is out 4m from the 1500m to the winning post and then true for the remainder of the course. HorseBetting.com.au brings you best bets and quaddie numbers for Winter Challenge Day, which kicks off at 11:20am AEST.

Winter Challenge Best Bet – Snippy Fox

We added Snippy Fox into our blackbook after her fourth-placed effort at Randwick in June, when she ran home strongly over 1100m behind Dragonstone in the Listed June Stakes. The Joseph Pride-trained five-year-old has only had one run since, finishing second behind the very promising Waihaha Falls over 1200m at Randwick on July 9. The daughter of Foxwedge gets out to 1500m for the first time on Saturday, but she drops to the minimum weight of 53kg, gets a race with a bit of pressure early and has drawn favourably to get every chance to salute at the each-way odds.

Best Bet at Rosehill Gardens – Troach

On what is a pretty tough day of racing, we are siding with a filly who we expected to be about two-thirds of the price that she is. Troach is a $15 chance with most online bookmakers, which seems absurd given her form. The two-year-old filly by Epaulette has won just one race from five starts, but she’s not been far behind Fireburn, She’s Extreme and Queen Of The Ball, who are all above-average fillies, and we thought her first-up run was good enough given the way the track played that day. Now fitter second-up, dropping to 52.5kg and drawing beautifully in gate seven, Troach is going to give this race a serious shake.

Best Value at Rosehill Gardens – Deep Romance

Matt Dunn has only had three winners in the month of July from 34 starters, but the stats don’t really tell you how well he is going. On Wednesday, July 27, Dunn saddled up five runners across both Doomben and Warwick Farm for one win ($25) and two seconds ($16 and $26), so his horses are going much better than market expectation. Three-year-old filly Deep Romance was a last-start winner over this track and distance, relishing the Heavy 9 to win by almost two lengths. While this is a slightly tougher task, she is racing really well this campaign and the healthy $12 odds are more than appealing. While she rises to 58kg on Saturday and has a sticky gate to contend with, we’re confident she will be thereabouts yet again.
