Why the $6 for Sunlight is a value play

Sunlight

THE Magic Millions 2YO is one of those races that captures punters’ imagination and we all want to identify the early value.

With that comes overreaction in the betting markets and we’ve seen that with the likes of Ef Troop and Jonker already this season, but there’s value with the only notable Magic Millions runner engaged this Saturday.

Two-year-old filly Sunlight is currently $6 with Sportsbet.com.au to win the Magic Millions 2YO following its 4.75-length win at Gold Coast last start. The bookmakers dramatically cut its odds following the win and punters should expect something similar following Race 2 at Gold Coast this weekend.

The daughter of Zoustar is the $1.55 favourite to win the Follow Aquis Farm On Twitter Handicap and we think she will do the job with ease. Trainer Tony McEvoy knows how to train quality juveniles and following its likely win this Saturday, we’re expecting another overreaction from the bookmakers.

What does that mean for punters? That means you should be taking the $6 on offer now if you fancy Sunlight to win the feature next Saturday. It will have only a week in between runs, but with a win on Saturday we’re predicting its odds to drop to $4.

Saturday’s race sponsor Aquis Farm is even marketing Sunlight in their advertising campaigns.

Jockey Luke Currie is a touch concerned about the track conditions, but believes he has the filly for the job.

“She couldn’t have been any more impressive the other day,” Currie said.

“Her last two furlongs, she was really quick.

“I suppose she has to prove that she can do that out to 1100 and 1200 metres but she was really strong through the line the other day so I can’t see why she couldn’t.

“They say it’s pretty wet up there so that’s probably another question mark but she has drawn well and I’d imagine she should be pretty hard to beat again.

“He (McEvoy) has taken the same path as Houtzen last year and a couple of those winners from the last few years.

“She does still have to back up the next week, but I think she’s pretty smart.”
