Where Happy Valley Racecourse – Wong Nai Chung Rd, Happy Valley, Hong Kong
When Wednesday, April 26, 2023
First Race 6:45pm HKT (8:45pm AEST)

We’re racing under lights at Happy Valley Racecourse on Wednesday night with a strong nine-race program on the cards. The rail is in the C+3 position for the evening, and with some nice weather forecast across Hong Kong, we should be racing on a Good 4 surface. There are some outstanding types stepping out, with the first race set to kick things off at 6:45pm HKT (8:45pm AEST).

Best Bet: Howdeepisyourlove

We must wait until the last race at Happy Valley for our best bet, but rest assured it should be worth the wait. Howdeepisyourlove looks like one of the more progressive sprinters in Hong Kong and after putting back-to-back wins together, ran into another nice type by the name of Victor The Winner at Sha Tin on April 15. Howdeepisyourlove was the only chaser on that occasion, powering into second and with more tempo on offer, you can argue may have finished even closer with some luck. He got further back than Karis Teetan would’ve liked and now getting back to his favoured Happy Valley circuit he deserves to be a short price commodity in this race. He draws barrier five on Wednesday night and only needs to be somewhere mid-field with cover to put these to the sword. Howdeepisyourlove has Group racing quality written all over him and we expect him to be winning this Class 2 before moving on to bigger targets.

Next Best: Romantic Laos

Romantic Laos broke his Hong Kong maiden last time out and we can’t see why he can’t make it back-to-back wins on Wednesday night. He won at Sha Tin over the 1400m and cleared out on his rivals to score a dominant 2.5-length win. He got the perfect steer with Zac Purton taking the reins who elects to stick once more and stepping to the 1650m looks ideal for this son of Pins. He’s got an awkward draw to overcome from barrier eight and with a 4kg penalty for his win, does need to overcome some adversity, but we’re confident he can produce another peak performance for Jamie Richards. His record at Happy Valley is sensational since arriving as a trainer this season and when combining with Purton needs to warrant plenty of respect. Romantic Laos will need some luck; however, if he finds any turning for home, he’s going to look the winner at some stage.

Next Best Again: Snowlot

Snowalot has a newfound ability with the David Hayes yard since the start of the season and looks primed to find his second win of the campaign. He won at this course and distance three starts back and hasn’t been far off another win since. His latest run In particular behind Son Pak Fu rates to be a winning one in this Class 4 contest, running into third on April 6. The winner of that race finds himself in Class 3 now and with race rival Kasi Farasi engaged here, we’re set to get a good guide on the form moving forward. Jockey Lyle Hewitson picked up this win this preparation and gives us confidence electing to stick on this son of Contributor. He should get an ideal run throughout the 1200m and when popped the question, Snowalot should find the line best this time.
