When Wednesday, February 8, 2023
First Race 1:08pm AEST

The Brisbane Racing Club will host its second meeting at Eagle Farm Racecourse in five days, after the Saturday metropolitan meeting was held there last weekend. On Wednesday, the club will host another competitive nine-race program. The track is currently rated a Good 4, and with warm weather forecast to continue on Tuesday and Wednesday, we should be kicking off on a Good track on race day. The rail will go out from the true position from Saturday to the +8m position for the entire circuit for Wednesday. The first race of the day will jump at 1:08pm AEST.

Best Bet at Eagle Farm: Morethannumberone

The second race of the day will feature a small field of runners in a Class 5 Plate over 1300m, where we will be siding with the Annabel Neasham-trained Morethannumberone, who will be returning from a four-month spell. This six-year-old gelding has been given a nice trial at Hawkesbury over 1000m on January 24 in the lead-up to this first-up start at Eagle Farm on Wednesday. Last campaign didn’t see very much success for this son of More Than Ready as he only recorded one win and two placings from his seven starts, with his one win coming at the Sunshine Coast over 1400m back on June 12 last year. However, this gelding looks to have come back really well this preparation after winning his trial but just over half a length, under very little riding powering home in the final 300m. Samantha Collett has only been aboard this guy once before, which was the last time he won. From barrier five, he will most likely drop toward the back of the field and look to run on and if he gets even luck, he will go very close to breaking his winning drought.

Next Best at Eagle Farm: Nashira

After finishing second at his last three starts, Nashira from the Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted yard looks to have found the race where he can break his run of outs and record his first win of the preparation. This four-year-old gelding was very unlucky last start where he got too far back and didn’t get a lot of luck on the fence, before flashing home to go down by the barest of margins as a long odds-on favourite at Doomben over 1050m on January 25. Two starts back this son of Zoustar finished half a length behind King Kapa who has gone onto win his next two starts by massive margins and is the boom horse in Queensland racing, after winning at Eagle Farm on Saturday by 3.5 lengths. From barrier seven, Ben Thompson should be able to keep this guy out of trouble and let him build into the race nicely and run home strong down the outside of the field. Now that he is fourth-up and gets Thompson back in the saddle, we should see this gelding return to the winners’ circle on Wednesday.

Next Best Again at Eagle Farm: Bronze Dragon

Our value play of the day will come up in the first leg of the quaddie, where the Billy Healey-trained Bronze Dragon will be attempting to break his maiden at his ninth career start. On Wednesday, this son of All Too Hard will be second-up for this campaign after finishing as the runner-up when first-up at Doomben over 1110m on January 25. This four-year-old gelding has finished in the placings at six of his eight starts to date, with three of them coming at the 1200m. On Wednesday, Healey will bring his gelding to Eagle Farm for the first time and the bigger and longer straight is expected to be a positive for him. Justin Huxtable will stick after riding him last start and now that he is second-up and fitter, we should see a very good performance and see him break through for his maiden victory.
