What Warrnambool May Racing Carnival – Day 2
Where Warrnambool Racing Club – 2-64 Grafton Rd, Warrnambool VIC 3280
When Wednesday, May 4, 2022
First Race 11:20am AEST

The Listed Wangoom Handicap is the feature event on Day 2 of the Warrnambool May Racing Carnival this Wednesday, and HorseBetting’s Victorian form expert is confident in steering the punters into a few winners on the 10-race card. With rain forecast on the day, we expect to be racing on the worse side of the current Soft 6 track rating, whilst the rail is set to remain in the true position. Racing commences at 11:20am AEST.

Wangoom Handicap Top Tip – Chassis

The Listed Wangoom Handicap over 1200m is the marquee race of the day, and Chassis from the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace yard looks the one to beat. Having been held up for a run at a crucial point when second-up at Caulfield, the Al Maher mare quickened nicely when clear to finish 1.5 lengths off Juan Diva. Despite having a poor third-up record, she should benefit from getting back to a surface where she can get her toe into the ground. Look for Jamie Kah to have her settled in the second half of the field, where Chassis can show off her strong turn of foot and superior race fitness. She is good enough to knock off the race favourite, Showmanship, and the $6.50 with online bookmakers is a good price to load into.

Galleywood Hurdle Top Tip – Saunter Boy

The Galleywood Hurdle is the featured event for the jumps fans on Wednesday, and we are hoping the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Saunter Boy can build on his last-start win in the MJ Bourke Hurdle at Pakenham. He is becoming one of the most reliable jumpers going around and, with Steven Pateman on board from barrier two, is sure to gain a perfect run in transit. The nine-year-old gelding finished fourth in this race last year, and with a clean set of heels on the flat, he should have a bit of class on this field and bring up consecutive wins. We’re happy to take the $2.60 on offer with online betting sites.

Best Bet at Warrnambool – Life Lessons

The way the Peter Moody-trained Life Lessons raced on debut at Sandown on April 18 suggests she is a clear best bet on Day 2 of The ‘Bool. Having gained an economical run in transit, she went stride-for-stride with the smart Fuller and took that runner to half a length whilst putting seven lengths on her closest rival back in third. She draws barrier five on Wednesday and looks set to gain a run in the one-one throughout. If she produces a similar effort to her debut run, then Life Lessons should be too good for this lot. Take the $2.90 with PlayUp and run.

Next Best at Warrnambool – Sugartown

Danny O’Brien and Damien Oliver are set to combine with four-year-old Sugartown in the opening leg of the quaddie. The Shamus Award mare is first-up from a six-month break and has a win and second-place finish from two runs when resuming from a spell. To add to that, she has missed the frame just once in five runs on rain-affected going and just simply looks perfectly placed in this. From barrier two, we expect Ollie to track the speed throughout, and armed with a strong turn of foot, Sugartown should prove too hard to hold out.
