The track is rated a Soft 6, with the rail in the true position throughout the entire circuit. Galleywood Hurdle: Britannicus

The Galleywood Hurdle over 3200m is the featured event on Day 2 of the Warrnambool May Racing Carnival, and it is no surprise to see the locally trained Britannicus as our best bet. Having won impressively at Oakbank two runs back, he followed up with a second-place finish at Hamilton on April 11 as a well-backed favourite. Having dropped 2.5kg off that last run, he should be the one charging home down the centre of the track over the final furlong. He is the only one in the field with any early speed and may get his own way out in front, but he can also run out a strong 3200m.

Best Bet: Sly Corner

The Busuttin & Young-trained Sly Corner was crunched late in the betting at Pakenham on April 15 but had to settle for second place. The Savabeel gelding led throughout that maiden but was overwhelmed late in the running by his market rival, Boschendal. From barrier 11, we expect Michael Dee to find his way to the front of the field and be the one to catch over the 1700m. The extra 100m here looks ideal for Sly Corner, and the three-length margin to his closest rival in his run at Pakenham shows there is a bit of class behind this gelding.

Best Bet of Day 2Race 2 – Sly Corner (#6) $3.50 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Mckeever

The locally trained Mckeever comes to the ‘Bool following a smart debut victory on April 21 at Bendigo, where he got the job done despite settling three wide with no cover up on speed. The Deep Field gelding drops back to 1000m, which looks to be no detriment to his chances, and from barrier seven will look to settle outside the leader. Joe Bowditch sticks, which is an added bonus, and with a fair speed expected, the pair may opt to take a sit off the leaders. Mckeever has shown he is strong over the final furlong, so he could be too good for this BM70 field if he finds some cover in the running.

Next Best of Day 2Race 5 – Mckeever (#5) $5 with Sportsbet
