IT is Ladies Day at Flemington on Thursday and the crown jewel of the race day is the Group 1 VRC Oaks.

One of the world’s premier 3yo filly races, the Oaks’ honour roll is a veritable who’s who of female racing in Australia and 2018 looks like no exception.

The team at Horse Betting has pored through the form and delivered our four best options heading into the feature event of the afternoon.

Amphitrite

The Darren Weir-trained Amphitrite comes into the VRC Oaks as the favourite despite a luckless second half of the field finish in the Empire Rose Stakes on Derby Day.

Prior to that race the horse had been on a four race winning streak, including a terrific win in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield. The daughter of Sebring just needs a clear run in the Oaks to be a major player.

Verry Elleegant

The Kiwi import Verry Elleegant is a HorseBetting.com.au favourite, but in the words of trainer of Darren Weir “she can sometimes be her own worst enemy”.

The filly ran a disappointing fifth as a short-priced favourite in the Wakeful Stakes but actually ran powerful late sectionals. The owners believe the firmer ground did her no favours and she’ll appreciate the extra cut in the ground on Thursday.

Mind on the job and some luck from barrier 13 will see Verry Elleegant highly competitive in the Oaks.

Aristia

In one of the more stunning maiden-breaking runs Aristia upset the much more fancied runners in the Wakeful Stakes on Victoria Derby Day, breaking away for a powerful win in the Group 2 event.

Is there any reason to doubt she can go back-to-back? Not after watching that race. Damien Lane takes the ride once again and she draws perfectly to register her first ever Group 1 win.

Zapurler

Zapurler comes into the Oaks on the back of a brilliant maiden win at Echuca on October 26. The horse made an early move and won the event by three and a half lengths in eye-catching fashion.

From a decent gate and with that quality win under the belt the outsider of the Weir trio looks as likely as the stablemates of recording a maiden Group 1 victory in the Oaks.
