Turnbull Stakes head-to-head betting – Winx vs. Humidor tips

Winx vs Humidor in Turnbull Stakes
FLEMINGTON is abuzz this week as the mighty mare Winx makes its debut on the hallowed turf.

Racing for the first time in Saturday’s Turnbull Stakes, Winx will jump as a borderline unbackable favourite across most bookmakers, but is the result as cut-and-dry as the market suggests?

The only other runner in single figures for the race is Darren Weir trained Humidor, which absolutely hammered the field in its last-start win in the Makybe Diva Stakes at double-figure odds.

Weir conceded on Thursday “the reality is that (Humidor) probably won’t beat (Winx)”, but after taking out the group one race just over a fortnight ago against formidable opposition, we are are wondering whether another unthinkable upset could be on the cards.

Those who are backing Winx to extend the winning streak to 21 can get $2 at Ladbrokes for the horse to win by a more than a head.

How does the sound of 20 wins in a row grab you?

At this point you probably have heard enough about Winx and what the mare has produced, but there are some slight causes for concern coming into this race.

The three runs upon resumption were lacklustre, and while the Chris Waller-trained horse got the job done, two of those races were absolute heart-stoppers and not the successes we had become accustomed to seeing. Compound that by making a debut at Flemington, which has undone some stars of the past, and it could spell the end of the imposing winning run.

Still, Winx is the best horse in the world right now and the obvious elect to beat.

Humidor form

Anyone who saw Humidor’s win in the Makybe Diva Stakes back on September 17 will know this horse is capable of a huge upset.

Launching a late run at the 400m mark, the gelding proceeded to put the field away in the latter stages, winning by three and a half lengths in what became a Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup market shifting performance.

Humidor is the $6 second favourite at Ladbrokes to win this year’s Caulfield Cup.

A win on Saturday would be the horse’s third-straight success at Flemington, and after the last-start win it would be foolish of us to write it off, not matter who its up against.

Winx vs. Humidor betting tip

Everyone loves an underdog but this may be a task too tall for Humidor on Saturday.

We are talking about the best racehorse in the world here, and as much as we would love to mount the case as to why the Flemington debut, the regularity for upsets to happen in small fields and Winx’s relatively sluggish form it is just too hard to make a realistic argument.

Both horses have bigger fish to fry this spring, but Winx knows no other way than to win and we think it is as much a formality as the sun coming up the next day.

Winx wins this and wins it easily, which is why we are recommending punters take the $2 at Ladbrokes for Winx to win by a head or more margin.
