Tony Gollan labels Honey Pot his good thing on Ipswich Cup Day
Queensland’s leading trainer, Tony Gollan, has labelled two-year-old filly Honey Pot as his best winning chance at Ipswich’s feature meeting on Saturday.
Although the daughter of Spirit Of Boom still holds her maiden tag, Gollan is confident the daughter of Spirit Of Boom can get the job done at start four following a last-start placing at Listed level in the Bill Carter Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm.

“She had a terrific run first-up in the Carter – it was the race that had been delayed a few weeks due to the cancellation of the Doomben 10,000 meeting,” Gollan said in his weekly stable preview.
“She’s had a great preparation; she ran well, she drew wide again there – she had to go right back – and then she ran on terrific from an unwinnable position really on the corner, so she did a great job.”
After a couple of eye-catching runs to start her career, the $300,000 yearling purchase hadn’t quite figured out the racing caper early on, but her trainer believes she has turned the corner and developed into a lovely racehorse.
With Honey Pot set to jump from barrier nine under Ryan Maloney in Saturday’s opening race, her trainer believes she can justify her favouritism with online bookmakers.
“She’s had a really good preparation this time,” the trainer said.
“She was quite a temperamental young filly before Christmas, but she’s just come back perfect this time around.
“She’s a real sweetie of a horse, she’s going super – I couldn’t be more happy with the change in the horse from last preparation to this one, and we’ll see a little bit of the benefit of that on Saturday.”
