Tibbie Stakes 2020 betting odds, tips & form

Asiago
Asiago has joined a select group of fillies to win the Group Three Spring Stakes at Newcastle.

The Group 3 Tibbie Stakes brings Newcastle Cup Day to a close, and the field looks to be one full of talent. With plenty of proven Group horses engaged, this looks to be one of the better Tibbie Stakes we have seen in a while. The 2019 version was taken out by the John Thompson-trained and Nash Rawiller-ridden mare Sweet Deal, who held out Notation in a thrilling finish.

Best Bet
Asiago @ $9 Neds

Godolphin’s 4YO mare was hugely impressive when taking out the Listed Mona Lisa Stakes at good odds a fortnight ago. She settled well back in the field in that race and came charging down the outside to nab Wandabaa late in the going. From barrier six, jockey Rachel King will be able to take her time in getting the mare comfortable in the running. Asiago has two wins from three starts when second up and has the same record at Group 3 level, so those boxes are ticked. She won the Group 3 Kembla Grange Classic last campaign and accounted for a few handy ones that day.

Next Best
All Saints’ Eve @ $6 Neds

John O’Shea and James McDonald team up with a 4YO mare who scored in a head-bobbing go first up at Randwick when getting the better of Vitesse on the line. All Saints’ Eve was almost two lengths off the lead when cornering but kept chasing and wore down the leader just in time. She was able to score second up last campaign at Warwick Farm and also has good form on rain-affected tracks. She was beaten by Asiago in the aforementioned Kembla Grange Classic earlier this year in a blanket finish and has seemingly come back in good order.

Best Value
Stella Sea Sun @ $23/$6 EW Neds

The Kris Lees-trained 5YO mare rises up in class after a minor placing at Eagle Farm three weeks back when beaten over two lengths by the Epsom-nominated Desert Lord. She has drawn the car park in the Tibbie but has the ability to overcome the difficult barrier by settling at the back of the field and running an eye-catching race. Stella Sea Sun has only missed the placings once in four attempts on soft going, which is what she gets here.
