The Follow Files: Pascero, Lady Of Luxury catch the eye

HorseBetting blackbook tips

Saturday, June 18, saw some competitive racing right across the country, and while there were no Group 1 races for the first time in a while, we did see a couple of future stars step out on the track. We have found one horse from two of the three big tracks that we want to follow this preparation.

Flemington | Track: Soft 7 | Rail: +12m Entire Course

Race 5: Listed A.R. Creswick Stakes (1200m) | Time: 1:10.89

  • Horse to follow: PASCERO (4th)

The first three past the post in Saturday’s feature at Flemington could be very good racehorses – especially the winner, Passive Aggressive. While all eyes were on Passive Aggressive and Star Patrol late, we liked the work of resuming three-year-old colt PASCERO. The Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained galloper is only lightly raced, with Saturday’s run his fifth career start and his first since running seventh to Hitotsu in the Group 1 Australian Guineas. This horse will be much better over 1400m and even 1600m, so to see him run very well down the Flemington straight first-up is a sign of good things to come.

When to bet: He is already a runner-up at Group 3 level over 1400m, so we could see this son of Pierro target a race like the Memsie Stakes later in the spring. Wherever they go with him next – provided it is over 1400m – we want to be with Pascero.

Rosehill Gardens | Track: Good 4 | Rail: +6m Entire Course

Race 9: Fillies & Mares Benchmark 78 (1300m) | Time: 1:17.13

  • Horse to follow: LADY OF LUXURY (2nd)

By this time in the afternoon on Saturday at Rosehill, you didn’t want to be far from the inside part of the track, so barrier one was certainly an advantage for LADY OF LUXURY. What wasn’t an advantage for this pretty classy mare was the fact that she blew the start, so her winning chances were halved from about the 50m mark. It was a good steer by Tim Clark to get the Bjorn Baker-trained galloper where he did, but the winner, Bella Rouge, just had too good of a run in transit and was able to skip clear in the straight.

When to bet: Lady Of Luxury has now had three runs for the preparation and she is knocking on the door for a win. Baker nominated her for the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara this Saturday but didn’t accept, and she does hold a nomination for the Healy Stakes at Eagle Farm. She will be competitive if she lines up in that race.
