What Ipswich Races @ Sunshine Coast Polytrack
Where Sunshine Coast Turf Club – 170 Pierce Avenue, Caloundra QLD 4551
When Wednesday, July 6, 2022
First Race 11:58am AEST

Wednesday’s metropolitan meeting at Ipswich has been transferred to the Sunshine Coast Polytrack, due to heavy rainfall. HorseBetting’s Queensland racing analyst presents you with his best bets, value bet and quaddie numbers for the nine-race program. The track is rated synthetic, and the rail will be true for the entire course. The first of nine is scheduled for 11:58am AEST.

Sunshine Coast Polytrack Best Bet – Enterprise Mia

Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted saddle up impressive last-start winner Enterprise Mia in this Class 2 Handicap over 1350m. The four-year-old mare did get all of the favours at Doomben on June 22, but she made sure she put the race away to win by 2.25 lengths under apprentice jockey Jaden Lloyd. The mare by Spill The Beans is yet to be tested on a synthetic track, but her racing pattern should allow her to be close enough if good enough on a track which often favours leaders. From barrier six with 55.5kg on her back, Enterprise Mia will take up a forward role, getting plenty of favours once again.

Sunshine Coast Polytrack Next Best – Like A Lark

The poly is a bit of an unknown for a lot of horses, especially two-year-olds, but if Like A Lark handles the surface, he should be too good in the opener. The Chris Munce-trained gelding has placed once from three career starts, but he comes out of a hot form race behind Corfe Castle and Billionair Baby on June 15 at Doomben, which has produced a subsequent winner and a number of runners who have raced well in similar or tougher company. The son of Spill The Beans undoubtedly will appreciate the rise to 1350m, while the inside barrier once again will allow Ryan Wiggins to hold a position in the first half of the field and save him for one final shot at them. This is a nice race for this horse.

Sunshine Coast Polytrack Next Best Again – Calcareous

Should Calcareous decide he wants to jump with his opposition, we expect him to be too good on Wednesday. The Lauren Abbott-trained four-year-old has blown the start at his two previous starts at Rockhampton and on the Sunshine Coast respectively, but despite that, he has been beaten just over a length both times. The son of the late Not A Single Doubt has form around Rose Of Duport, the in-form Central Queensland galloper Niccyas and Annabel Neasham’s Awe, which looks pretty good for this fairly weak Class 2. 40% of Samantha Collett’s rides on this synthetic track have finished in the placings, so we are hoping she can be on her A-Game once again on Wednesday. Calcareous gets Blinkers for the first time on Wednesday and Pre-Race Ear Muffs are removed for the first time, which should switch the big grey on a bit more in the hope that he jumps with them.
