Sunshine Coast Betting Preview – January 30, 2021

A nice nine-race card has been assembled for a rare day of metropolitan-class racing on the Sunshine Coast this weekend. Headlined by the Sunshine Coast Cup, we will also be graced with a strong 3YO Handicap and a quality Open Sprint. The track is currently a Good 4, but with rain around from now until race morning, we can expect to see a downgrade to a Soft 5 or Soft 6. The rail is set in the true position, and the first race is set to jump at 12:23pm local time.

Best Bet: Race 6 – Pull Anchor #10

Tony Gollan has been airborne of late and has another strong list of runners engaged on Saturday, one of which we are very keen on. Pull Anchor was a frustrating commodity early in her career, taking seven runs to win her maiden and being beaten as a strong market hope in her first six runs. While she has won only three from 19, she has placed in 10 races and looks to have finally put it all together. Second up at Eagle Farm she was one of the only runners all day to come from behind, but she still managed to win by 2.5 lengths in good fashion. She won at Doomben two starts back and then ran sixth in a quality race at the Gold Coast three weeks ago. She has drawn out wide here under Ryan Maloney, so she is likely to get back in the run, but there looks enough speed to give her a good cart into the race. She looks a genuine class or two above these.

Next Best: Race 4 – Platinum Euros #10

A runner we have a fair bit of time for is Natalie McCall’s Platinum Euros. The four-year-old gelding has won three from five starts, two of which have come here on his home track. He was beaten first up by Garibaldi, which was slightly disappointing given his form leading up to that win, but he has since won three in a row. At his most recent outing the son of Eurozone settled last and still blew them away by three lengths, justifying the $1.40 quote. He can settle a touch closer from barrier three under Tiff Brooker and win comfortably again with even luck.

Best Value: Race 9 – Tambo’s Mate #1

Stuart Kendrick and Ryan Maloney combine in the last with the ultra-consistent five-year-old Tambo’s Mate. The son of Mossman has won eight from 21 and placed in a further five races, amassing nearly $500,000 in prizemoney for his owner. He kicked off this campaign with a huge run behind Sugar Boom and Just Orm at this track and distance before being thrown in the deep end at Group and Listed level, but he still managed to hold his own. This is the first time this campaign he has drawn a good barrier, and he gets to a track and distance where he is a proven performer. Back in grade significantly, he should be too good for these.

Best ValueRace 9 – Tambo’s Mate (#1)$9.50 with Sportsbet
