Street Gossip ($4.60) announced herself in Listed class storming home late to take out the Princess Stakes at Doomben.

The Mark Newnham-trained filly took out her last start at Wyong over the 1600m winning by just over a length with Tom Sherry onboard who retained the ride for Saturday’s race.

From the gates the trio of Wolverine, Cottee and Yankee Hussel peeled out to take up the lead but as the pace quickened that order changed quickly.

The favourite Wolverine ($2.70) went back quickly to sit second last for most of the trip with Veandechance and Divine Purpose taking over the lead.

On the turn with 350m left to run Veandachance extended her lead before hitting a wall under Ashley Morgan.

Street Gossip was then asked the question by Sherry as the filly by So You Think devoured ground storming over the top with 100m left in her sights.

The Toowoomba Guineas winner Madam Odette ($4.20) finished second with Wolverine finding third for the Kris Lees stable.

With seven career starts the win makes it three victories and a third placing so far as we head into the Brisbane Racing Carnival.

Trainer Mark Newnham aware of her potential was impressed with the performance.

“She has been a filly who has had the ability from the start but has been a little bit tricky.

“Tom (Sherry) has been with her the whole way through and it’s only been through this preparation that she has been able to figure it out and put it together.

“She has a really big future ahead of her.

“I’m very hopeful that she progresses well and its great to get a great result today for a great group of owners and we will just enjoy today.”

With Newnham preparing to head to Hong Kong he said that the future for Street Gossip was not certain as of yet.

“We will get one or two more runs from her and run her in the Bracelet.

“We will decide after that if she will get an Oaks trip or not but while she is in this kind of form we may as well make use of it.”
