Shelby Sixtysix affirmed his cult hero status, taking out The Galaxy at Group 1 level at Rosehill Gardens.

In what is a story for the ages, the Goulburn-based sprinter has had 16 starts this preparation, winning a Class 2 Highway four starts back, before beating home Nature Strip and then winning the Group 2 Challenge Stakes last weekend.

Now a Group 1 winner, the heavy track specialist took his prizemoney to beyond $1 million.

Williams was somewhat lost for words post-race, labelling his stable star as “incredible”.

“How well is he going? That is incredible,” he said.

“Is he in The Everest?

“What an incredible story. I can’t believe it, what do you say? The horse got beaten here a few runs ago and to be winning a Group One.

“It’s great for Robbie too.

“Keep him happy. It’s a bit like the wife, just keep her happy and let her do what she wants.”

Williams has not locked in plans with his in-form gelding just yet, but he is toying with the idea of going to another Group 1 event in April.

“Good question. The All Aged Stakes is not out of the question, do we pay the late entry fee for the TJ?,” Williams questioned.

“Not out of the question. Is it going to be wet? More than likely.

“I have been on such a high since the Challenge Stakes and the horse has just gone right to the sky. I can’t believe it.”

Shelby Sixtysix is now a $26 chance for The Everest in October, with a slot not out of the question.
