What Sha Tin Races
Where Sha Tin Racecourse – Tai Po Rd, Sha Tin District, Hong Kong
When Wednesday, March 29, 2023
First Race 7:15pm HKT (10:15pm AEDT)

Traditionally we’d be at Happy Valley on Wednesday night; however, this time we’ll be racing at Sha Tin under lights as we’ve got an eight-race program on the all-weather circuit. Usually on-speed gallopers can find some favours on this course and some hot tempo races can be the undoing at times, seeing some backmarkers get into play late. The first race is set to get underway at 7:15pm HKT (10:15pm AEDT).

Best Bet: The Best Hero

The Best Hero makes his return on the all-weather surface on Wednesday night and although he’s only a one-time winner in Hong Kong, he’s been unfortunate not to have more wins to his name. He finished his last preparation running into third behind Super Win Dragon, which now looks quality all-weather form, with that horse set to run in the last race of the program in Class 2. This race sees The Best Hero return into Class 4 and with his latest barrier trial suggesting he’s set to run well, he’s a clear best bet on the program. Alex Lai knows this son of Siyouni extremely well and from barrier two should get a perfect run throughout the 1200m journey. There’s plenty of speed on the map too, so The Best Hero should be flying over the top of his rivals late, proving too good.

Best Bet

Race 2 – #6 The Best Hero (2)

Next Best: Hava Nageela

Hava Nageela is set to have his sixth run of the preparation on Wednesday night and gets back to the all-weather circuit after his two initial runs were superb. Both runs left him chasing from too far back in big field; however, he finds a race with just the 10-runners engaged here. He should get the saloon passage on the inside when the time comes, and Silvestre de Sousa sticks after taking the ride on the turf course last time out against Ching (who won on Sunday). With luck, It should see Hava Nageela find his first win in Hong Kong for Frankie Lor.

Race 6 – #4 Hava Nageela (1)

Next Best Again: Shining Fortune

Shining Fortune broke his maiden at start number 14 and it came when he raced on the all-weather circuit for the first time on December 18. He’s found the all-weather surface twice since that win and both runs have had plenty of merit behind the likes of Adefill and The Multiplier, the latter he sees again on Wednesday night. He gets a nice weight swing on his key rival and looks well placed by trainer John Size. Karis Teetan draws the one pole after getting some horror draws in the past and should get the back of a genuine tempo here. He’ll need the brakes to come up on the inside, but If they do, he could prove too strong.

Next Best Again

Race 4 – #5 Shining Fortune (1)

4yo Gelding | T: John Size | J: Karis Teetan (58kg)
