What Scone Races
Where Scone Race Club – 434 Bunnan Rd, Scone NSW 2337
When Tuesday, September 5, 2023
First Race 1pm AEST

Scone Race Club is the destination for NSW racing on Tuesday afternoon, with eight races lined up for punters. The rail is in the true position the entire circuit, and with a favourable forecast heading into race-day, the track should be in the Good range prior to the opening race at 1pm AEST.

Best Bet: Hellcibell

We were taken with the debut performance of Hellcibell at Scone on August 21. The daughter of Hellbent raced green through the middle stages, rocketing into second place behind Christa, and with that race-day experience under her belt, she should take massive improvement second-up. Mitchell Bell takes the reins from barrier two, and provided he can travel better than mid-field turning for home, Hellcibell should be unleashing down the centre of the track late.

Best Bet

Race 2 – #5 Hellcibell (2)

Next Best: Harlow Mist

Harlow Mist will be seeking back-to-back victories after a terrific debut win at Goulburn on August 14. Her win came on a very heavy track over 1400m, clearing out comfortably by a half-length on the winning post. The margin back to third was significant, and with a step up to 1600m only looking to suit this filly by Contributor, Harlow Mist should be doing her best work late. She draws awkwardly in gate nine, but if Reece Jones can peel her out on the three-wide line in the straight, she’ll be right in this.

Next Best

Race 4 – #4 Harlow Mist (9)

3yo Filly | T: John Sargent | J: Reece Jones (57kg)

Best Value: Externus

Externus has had six attempts at breaking his maiden status, and although he’s been a costly commodity for followers, this looks to be a perfect time to back him on an each-way basis. He’s started at less than $4 in his three starts this campaign, most recently as an even-money chance at Tamworth on August 25. They elected to take a sit on that occasion, and our hope is a change of tactics on Tuesday. We’ll be looking for Lee Magorrian to take the initiative and lead on the four-year-old gelding, and hopefully he can give a mighty kick turning for home.

Best Value

Race 3 – #2 Externus (3)

4yo Gelding | T: Jake Hull | J: Lee Magorrian (58.5kg)
