What Scone Races
Where Scone Racing Club – Bunnan Rd, Scone NSW 2337
When Tuesday, December 20, 2022
First Race 1:50pm AEDT

The stand-alone race meeting in New South Wales this Tuesday will be held at Scone Racing Club, as it hosts a competitive seven-race card. With warm weather and no rain around on the forecast, the current rating of a Good 4 should be the same rating that we see on raceday. The rail will be back in the true position for the entire circuit.

The first race of the day will jump at 1:50pm AEDT.

Best Bet at Scone – Jet Pack

The fourth race of the day will be a Benchmark 58 Handicap over 1100m and it will feature our best bet of the day, Jet Pack, from the Cameron Crockett yard. This four-year-old gelding is coming off a very nice win at his third start for his new trainer, with a win at Mudgee over 1100m on December 2. This son of Fastnet Rock looks to have found some form in his last two runs, finishing a close second two runs back and recording a dominant 3.3 length victory at his most recent start. Jeff Penza rode this guy at his last start, where he found the lead and kicked clear on the home turn. With the extra 2.5kg on Tuesday and jumping from barrier nine, he may have to do more work to find the lead, but if he gets to the front with ease and doesn’t overdo it in the run, he will be hard to catch.

Next Best at Scone – Clovelly

A Maiden Plate over 1100m will be the fifth race of the day, where we have found a three-year-old filly that looks ready to break her maiden in a very winnable race. The Matthew Smith-trained Clovelly looked the winner at the top of the home straight last start, before a smart one finished over the top of her in the concluding stages. This filly has been working up to a win, with a third and a second at her last two starts at Newcastle and Nowra. On Tuesday she will drop 3kg and stay at the 1100m with Blake Spriggs retaining the ride for the second start in a row. This filly is in good form and with another nice draw of barrier two. She should be able to break her maiden at Scone at her fourth start of her career.

Best Value at Scone – Miss Santorini

The only race for the stayers will be the Benchmark 58 Handicap over 2200m, where the Kris Lees-trained Miss Santorini will be looking to break through and record her first win of this preparation. This four-year-old mare has finished in the placings at three of her five starts this campaign, including last start where she went down in a head-bobber at Tuncurry over 2100m on December 13. The top two in the market, Unzaga and Overice, look to be the horses to beat, but considering both rise in weight by 2kg and 3kg respectively, this girl looks to be great value at $7.50 with online bookmakers only rising half-a-kilogram. From barrier three, Andrew Gibbons should have her settle in the one-one and look to peel off the leaders heels to stake her claim, and with even luck she will be in the finish once again.
